Such a pretty area! Next week we are off to Indiana to see what's left of my family. We will be gone nine days. No OrchidWiz but I'll chirp in from time to time. It was 72 degrees and sunny up there today. I hope the weather holds. I'll have to bulk up on mashed potatoes and noodles.

Yes indeed, home made noodles in a beef or chicken broth ladled over mashed potatoes. Indiana comfort food. I grew up having that for dinner every Sunday at grandma's house.

I know this isn't really my neighborhood but I thought some of you may be interested in what I saw in northern Indiana. I don't have many relatives but I am close to my cousin who never left the old home land where we grew up. He owns 80 acres or so and leases most of it out to farmers. Lots of corn, soy beans and wheat everywhere you look. Here are some pictures of where we spent the last 10 days. It is kind of like Ursula's Pennsy.

Very nice, Jim. We came from Chicago and still have family there. My brother has a weekend/summer place in Knox and loves it.
I remember those storms and tornadoes from my time innthe midwest, Ken. Can get scary. Of course now I have a grandson that has to take a trip to the mountains to see snow
We were in Pennsy, but unfortunately we missed the Platanthera lacera in bloom, we saw one of the plants, already with all blooms drooping.
But taking a quick look this morning, the Epipactis helleborine are still in the budding stage.
In the meanwhile the Helleborines have come and gone. This corner of Pennsylvania had a longish dry spell and finally some good drenchers. We went exploring this morning to see some Mushrooms coming up. Not too many, but here are some.
Crossing the neighbor's meadow yesterday evening, our place is to the front and left.
And can you spot the Spiranthes cernua in spike?
I lived for a time, with a couple of chefs.. One day a bag of morels were collected from the ancient cemetery next door.. I was horrified.. As they looked positively poisonous!.. They were sliced up and sautéed in butter and garlic... I swear to God.. I thought i had died and went to heaven!
