I stand corrected. There is no Ruby! It's you!!!
We're watching the news conference right now. The Bastrop homeowners are rightly frustrated that they were getting very little information on the status of their homes. They finally have posted lists of homes that are no longer standing. Now the power company is explaining why they might not soon be restoring power to a neighborhood that is mostly destroyed. The fire is still largely uncontrolled. The pine trees just explode. They had confirmed 1234 homes totally gone, but another list just went up of more confirmed losses.
As sad as it is that so many have lost their homes, they also had to run quickly and leave animals behind. There's a rescue group going out and picking up pets, horses and cattle, and taking them to an arena for safety. Bastrop is mostly considered rural and I would bet a large percentage of residents are older and have no insurance. A couple of new subdivisions have gone up, but still mostly farming and retirees.
The fire in Austin, at Steiner Ranch, is 75% contained. They're letting folks back in to see if they can salvage anything. Only 24 houses were destroyed. It's a fairly upscale neighborhood. They were able to keep in touch on their FB page! Some neighbors hiked into the closed area to check on their homes and retrieve pets.
The Leander neighborhood fire is out and was set by teens that were seen, but have not been ID'd as of yet. Someone will talk. Ten homes were burned to the ground.
Whew, probably more than you wanted to know!
