Just looked this up and only find S. adolphi. One i no X. So I'm unclear if these are all talking about the same plant or if there is a hybrid at all. I see others have had this same question but no answer. oops The label reads. Sedum x adophii "Golden Sedum"

I also have this one and my label also spells it with a double i. This appears to be incorrect according to The Catalog of Life. Correct spelling is Sedum adolphi. Your sedum looks much like mine.

Sedum adolphii is the correct spelling on the plant list.

Where there is an 'X' it usually indicates a cross of that species, but the other parent isn't known for certain. Open pollination can produce surprise crosses, controlled pollination is the only way to know with certainty both pod and pollen parents.

A search for "sedum adolphi" on Species 2000, which is the reference for World Plants in Catalogue of Life, I get no results for either spelling but the site doesn't appear to be current.

A thorough investigation is the only way to eliminate errors and doubts. I'm surprised that The Plant List had got the spelling wrong, maybe they haven't got around to updating it yet. However, the link is on the site which gives the true source of the name on the International Plant Names Index. That appears to be as good as it gets, until someone comes up with an earlier source for the same species which would trump that one. First in time takes priority.

The X does suggest a hybrid, a straight species wouldn't have an X which simply means a cross with another species or hybrid cross.
