Hello!

I was wondering, how do you grow grapes? I am asking because my old house a LONG time ago had grapes planted in the ground and I wanted to try it. Also, are they annuals or Perennials?

Thanks!

Jared

I'm not sure what zone you are in but some grape vines can be killed or injured by freezing winter temperatures. I think Concord Grape (Vitis labrusca 'Concord') will grow in zones 5 or 6 and higher.

I googled and found this information about growing grapes in Idaho:

This page lists a few types that do well in Idaho: http://growinggrapesguide.com/...

I live in the Pacific Northwest near Puget Sound, zone 8. I have not had any problem growing grapes (a perennial vine) through freezes or snow - these are all 30+ years old.. Most vineyards in my area grow grapes on shorter espalier type wire supports, but mine are grown for both the fruit and as a garden feature and I like the look of a taller trellis. I prune these back quite severely in early spring, and several times during the growing season. Unfortunately all of my grapes are NOIDs, which makes it more difficult to utilize the fruit. Mostly we eat them off the vine and/or toss them to the chickens, who love them. Last season yielded a particularly robust crop, not sure why, perhaps the warmer summer temps.

I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

There are lots of vineyards here in Cali, so what I can share here is perspective how it is being grown here in California. Popular areas being in Napa Valley, but we are nearer to the vineyards in Livermore, where you can just see miles and miles of them.
Found this link, very informative: http://cagardenweb.ucanr.edu/G...

It looks like Post Falls. may be a zone 6a.

I Googled "growing grapes in Post Falls, Idaho" and found this PDF article "Grow Your Own Backyard Grapes - University of Idaho"

Jared,
I'm in zone 5a and I grow concords. The fruiting picture was in July. We harvest in September. I make grape juice and can it.
