Here's a photo of my Coral Reef and Ogon. This spot gets mostly bright shade. I also have them in some others areas. These two have performed well for me in the high heat and humidity we get here. I do have them in well draining soil.

Lovely photo Sondra, and the sedum are obviously happy in those growing conditions. Very nice.

Very nice, Sondra! If they're growing well for you in Houston, I would imagine they'll do OK here. Thumbs up

Hello Ibis,
Live in zone 9 b like you. Wondering how things turned out for you growing sedum in the ground here? Crossing Fingers!

I shouldn't have come into this thread. Now you're going to have me collecting sedums, Lynn! There are some gorgeous ones that I now have on my want list. I think they would love NM if they can get established without something eating them.

Hi catgirly, and Welcome! to NGA.

@IbisFla How are your sedum doing in Florida? Hoping they have acclimated and are doing well?

Here's the link regarding growing Sedum in Florida, that FlMamaT was trying to add: http://gardeningsolutions.ifas...

I tried the 'Coral Reef' Sedum awhile back but unfortunately it was left out during a long rainy period and ended up rotting. Sedum will probably do very well here in Florida as long as they aren't left out without protection during the rainy season. A couple that are mentioned in the University of Florida article:

Chinese Stonecrop (Sedum tetractinum 'Coral Reef')
Stonecrop (Sedum lineare 'Sea Urchin')
Sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile 'Herbstfreude')

I grow many different sedums in containers and they make great companion plants to other succulents. If rain is a problem a container can be moved out of it.

Sedum makinoi 'Ogon' does just fine here in Houston. I have it in the ground in several places. It has gone through many times of multiple inch rains. It is in bright shade with just a little sun. I actually have to water it in the summer, if the soil starts to get too dry. It gets sparse in winter, but comes back strong as soon as it warms up.

I agree Sondra, even in our milder weather 'Ogon' needs some protection from the sun. Mine is also in filtered light and needs watering once our dryer weather starts up in July. It also goes winter semi dormant here.

I tried 'Ogon" here in NM, and it promptly died on me. I had it in a sunny area. I should try it again in a shadier place.

Karen, I would think in your area you would have to give it almost full shade. And definitely water regularly.
