Dave is setting up the ATP database. He has pulled in our database from Cubits. He can add data boxes, pull down menus, or other areas where we can add data when entering daylilies to the database so that users of the database will be not only see that data, but be able to search for it.

There are "master" data boxes for all types of plants that will be able to be filled out, or checked - then some types of plants - daylilies, roses etc. will have additional information available to be filled out. Such as, daylilies will have an area so we can select foliage type of evergreen, semi-evergreen or dormant - which does not make sense if your entering a pansy into the database. Smiling I think this will make the ATP database the best one I have seen on the web. Thumbs up

So -- this is our opportunity to tell Dave what we want in the daylily section as our individual criteria.

If you want to be involved in the database creation, there is a thread on the Site forum where you can be added if you let Dave know.

Here is a screen shot of the daylily section as it stands now. I got to it by going to the database, searching for Ruby Spider, then Editing details.

the database is not open for general viewing yet. So, I am not sure how many of these links will be visible... but I will include them in case you can get to them.

Here are a few suggestions I put in the database forum - but I don't think Dave has seen them yet, as he has not responded.

"Do you have a current model of what the color choices for blooms will be?

I am wondering how that will work for daylilies.

In daylilies, off the top of my head, I would think of white, cream, yellow, gold, polychrome, peach, apricot, melon, orange, red, burgundy, pink, pale pink, mauve, magenta, lavender, orchid, purple, blue (not really, but some people think so!), black

Then we have patterns - watermarks, eyes, pencil eyes, stippling, streaks, different color edges, edges without eyes, halos

and, forms - various spider forms and also the new sculpted forms, as well as a couple types of doubles, and also polytepals."

Ok, from pg. 7 of the Sept. blooms...
Calif_Sue said:OK everyone, I need some input. Dave is working hard to get the details for this new ATP database.

As I stated in the Database planning forum that Juli and I are on, initially, as I understood it, Juli did not want a database that was a repeat of the AHS registration database but now I am thinking ahead of the search features, I hope Juli agrees with me, but I do believe that if we want this database to be truly useful, we need to add a few more daylily specific options. Things like scape height, bloom size, and daylily bloom season is always registered as Early, Mid-season and Late, with combinations of those like EM, MLa. A drop down check-off for these options would be great. On DG, the bloom size was always small, medium and large and actually having the option to check off the actual registered size would be good for folks searching for specific sizes, same thing with scape heights.
So plants like roses and daylilies will have plant specific options included so that if someone wants to do a search for something, say for instance, a dormant daylily, late season blooming with a red flower and a 28" scape, you can type that in. To make sure we have a database that rocks, Dave now asks:
"So, exactly what kinds of data do we want for daylilies?"
Any additional ideas beyond scape, bloom size, foliage type, bloom season? We are trying to make this easy so that anyone can add a new entry so the more drop-down menu check-of options, the better.

daylily said:Sue, I worried that someone would put in incorrect information. I knew I would not be able to check every entry against the AHS database or checklists to be sure they were correct. Since you have taken on the database - and Dave wants people to check the entries - I think it would be a good idea to have as much daylily specific info as we can.

We want this to be the BEST over all plant database there is --- and we want the daylily part of it to be the best one out there. Now is the time to make it happen!

I wish we could show everyone what it looks like - do you think Dave would allow more people "in" to the database forum to see the daylily database?

Calif_Sue said:I think anyone can be added just by saying so in the planning thread on the Site News forum.

My first wish is to have, this is exactly like DG, with a check off box for each:
Bloom Time:

Extra early (EE)
Early (E)
Early midseason (EM)
Midseason (M)
Late Midseason (MLa)
Late (La)
Very late (VLa)
Reblooming (Re)

The things that I think can be left out is hardiness zones, that is all relative to how someone plants and cares for a daylily so I hate to have a set in stone number that someone would be afraid to grow something based on not understanding their cold hardiness zone.. I feel the designations of EV, Semi-EV and Dormant would be sufficient.
Your thoughts?

Newyorkrita said:I don't really even have that info that you guys are looking for. I don't measure my scape heights or flower sizes. I really only pay attention to if it is somewhere in the middle of the season (and that could be EM, M or ML) or if it is late or extra late blooming. I do have lots of Instant Rebloom.

[quote="Calif_Sue"]Yep, we can enter what the hybridizer registered as their budcount but it certainly will be different for everyone so additional comments for individual experiences for a particular daylily will be helpful to others, even if it's just a quick brief note.
And anyone that contributes to the database in any way (details, photos etc.) can earn Acorns!

OK --- I think that is all the database discussion we have had.

If you are a member on DG - you might go over there and look up a daylily and see what you think is missing from their database.

Then, look one up on the AHS database.

We would like our daylily database to have the most information!

I consider this one of the things WE can do for Dave to repay him for making this great site for us!
