@MISSINGROSIE I won't tell you what my father used to say to me when I bugged him to tell me the answer to one of my dumb questions, "You may often wonder, but you shall never know." Drove me crazy!!! Anyway, when I came back from the Dr.'s office, I put the keys on the sideboard like I usually do, and there was the razor blade! I asked DH if it had always been there and he told me that he had found it in the closet where we were working. He had opened the last box which was sitting in the doorway, and stretched his hand out and put it beside the wall next to his camera tripod which is stored in there. After he found it he left it on the sideboard to make sure I saw it when I came in. @drdawg Thank You! for letting me off the hook. Indeed, we will enjoy our visit with our daughter. It has been two years since we saw her and her husband and we are anxious to see their new home.

At least he fessed up..he could have just gotten rid of the evidence!

Two years is a long time....our daughter lives in Pa. We see her about 2 times a year..but it isn't easy because 6 months out of the year the weather there is awful for driving. We go interstate 81 and it is thru mountains. I know you will be sooooooo happy to see her. New Mexico is on my bucket list..it looks so beautiful.

safe travels....and a wonderful visit.

@MISSINGROSIE When we lived in Illinois we used to travel to Roanoke, VA to see my mother, aunt and uncle. One time we were on our way home after our Christmas visit and of course we were in the mountains and it was snowing. We were following a large red flatbed truck and I remember DH remarked that if the flatbed went over the mountain we would go over right behind him. Obviously since we are still here we made it home. With our kids in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Illinois and Georgia, it is really hard to get around to everybody. The last time we saw all of the kids at one time was two years ago when I had my 80th birthday in Arizona. Last year we were able to visit our other daughter at their summer home in Okoboji, Iowa on her birthday. We wanted to see her sister this year on her birthday. Both were born on Aug. 12 -- no, they are not twins, one year separates them. Anyway, we will enjoy our visit one on one this year. Thumbs up

Anytime you visit the Phoenix area, feel free to contact me. If I'm around, I'd love to meet up. Do you go see the Desert Botanical Garden while you're here? It's really worthwhile. Most of our gardening is done now in NM, near Silver City. I'm not sure where Nogal is.

@plantmanager Funny you should mention the Desert Botanical Garden. DH is in the process of converting all of our films taken on vacations to Blu-ray and after he does them, we always preview to make sure everything came out. One of the first times we went to Scottsdale years ago to visit our daughter, her husband took us to the Garden. We loved it, and enjoyed reliving it once more while doing our preview. The two boys were small and it is hard to believe that they now are grown men with children of their own! Nogal is close to Ruidoso. Their home is very close to the Apache Mescalero (sp) reservation.

Still haven't found my attitude adjustment ... Grumbling Grumbling I've been workin' on it tho'. Then I looked at the forecast for next week ... all triple digit temps .... YIKES ! D'Oh! Guess it won't help much to pray for rain ..... well, we don't get rain in the summer, so nah that wouldn't work well anyway ... I'll think of something.

Oh, yeah, I brought all of this stuff home for the freezer and NOW it tells me I just have to defrost it ... poor, poor planning on my part .... Rolling my eyes.

The DBG is one of our favorite places, but I don't get there much during the hot summer. I'm there a lot during the rest of the year.
Oh, Nogal is in a nice area! We've been all around that area. We finally found our dream place on a hill outside of Silver City. Hubby has his astronomical observatory there, and I have my greenhouse. It's not big enough, of course!

Lyn, we've been hitting 90s the past few days and I'm definitely in wilt mode... humidity is really high, as well Sticking tongue out . Even my sister-in-law, who is up here from Florida for a couple of months and staying in a cottage with no A/C, commented on how hot it is and that she "isn't used to not having air conditioning." I think triple digits might completely do me in...

We've been watching the Tour de France bike race on TV and I was thinking of you driving on the mountain road (as I watched the bikers going through a really grueling mountain stage of the race). Why is part of the road unpaved -- are they repairing it?

It's not humid here, but as far as I am concerned, hot is hot. I can only work outside for about three hours in the mornings. Normal temps for my summers are in the high 90s to triple digits. No, I don't like those summer temps because I'd rather be outside ... Smiling

No, they are not repairing the highway. They are taking out some of the nasty curves and widening it, so they are trying to taking out some of the mountain ... but the mountain doesn't want to play along with the plan. This has been going on for a few years, now. They had to blast this part of the mountain to widen the highway, so it's single lane and no real highway. Over 2,000 vehicles a day travel through there, so there are always long delays. They are working 24/7. It's not scheduled to be completed until the end of 2017.

It's sad that the one grocery store up here doesn't carry normal staples and we have to go down the mountain to get things like brown rice instead of gourmet rice. Geeesh. That's just one silly example. Yogurt up here cost $7 a pint and less than $2 for the same brand down in the valley. I won't even begin to tell you the price difference in produce. That makes my hair frizz.

So, I have to drive down the mountain. I've accepted that part, I just thought I wouldn't let myself get all bent out of shape about it, but I did ... Sighing!

Whoa..that is bad enough but should circumstance prevent you via a car issue, a storm, etc., that store has a captive audience.

Yes, that is true. However, a well stocked freezer and and a well stocked pantry can get you through months without having to go down the mountain. It takes planning and a willingness to learn how to "put things up just in case", but it can be done. I have my great grandmother's cookbook from a time when they didn't have all of our conveniences, and there is some very good info in there on how to prepare for winter.

This place is the second mother lode of the California gold rush and there is a lot of history here. There are stories of when the miners were snowed in and couldn't get food and had to survive by living on the barley they had stored to feed their animals. A lot of survival stories. We have it easy compared to them.

I boycott that fancy grocery store as much as I can because there are a lot of poor people up here that can't go down the mountain. I make sure I buy food for the soup kitchen when I go down, too. I hate that store.

Yes. I remember from a past conversation that you are very industrious. I was thinking in general of the folks around you. You have a pioneering spirit but so many people do not ...but perhaps those that do not don't stay for long. Do you pan for gold???
