Ok, will this plants grow in my area? Zone 6b. We get down in the teens in the winter with snow. The snow reallly doesn't last to long. I would love to try some of these plants and ideas, but can't bring them in side during the winter.

Hi Marti, yes these little guys will grow outside for you - in fact they prefer it. I've tried to bring other types of Sedum in for the winter, and they either die out by the spring, or don't look very good and take a long time to recover.

I agree I agree with Jacki (BlueFox). They would grow well in your part of the country, your zone is well withing the limits for most sempervivum and sedum. Now is a good time to get started with a few. They will have time to get adjusted before winter comes. Just make sure they have really good drainage.

Ok, so what should I start with? The nurseries here don't seem to have alot to choose from. I am open to suggestions. Or gifts of babies? Whistling

Marti, just get what ever ones they have. Get the one with the most chicks (offsets). Then you can take them home and plant them in different places with different light conditions and potting soil mixes. That will really give you an idea of what will work the best for you in your area. What is your growing zone Marti?
Charleen are you here. If so I think your growing conditions might be similar. Do you have any suggestions for Marti?

I'm in zone 6b. I've been checking the local nursery and Lowes for sedum and the rest. So far not much found.

Marti, try looking for mail order sources - they have good selection, and usually accurately named, so it's easier to find out how to care for them. One that I use is Beaver Creek Greenhouses, and they ship to the US - http://www.rockgardenplants.com/ and I'm pretty sure there are lots closer to you that you could find with a google search. Let me know if you need more help, I've got lists of contacts.

They really have some lovely plants Linda. Have you ordered from them before? I got S. 'Red Rubin' while I was back East this spring and mailed it home. Guess that's a true sign of addiction. Rolling on the floor laughing
If you can't find one before next spring, I should have some to send you in trade. Thumbs up

There will definitely be some of us wanting to trade Linda. I know I see some on your list that I don't have. Thumbs up
Trading is such a fun way of adding to both your own collection and some one else's collection. That's why it is so important to keep things tagged or identified.
I have a few that have lost their tags and I can no longer ID. Confused They are still beautiful and very usefully for projects. Thumbs up
