Firstly, she did Not voluntarily stay there. At first she didn't realize she Was in a previous time, and by the time she did she was captured. Tried to return to her time & her husband, and kept getting caught either by the Scots or English. She was pretty lost in that time, and I can feel for her - I know I wouldn't fit in right away, and it would be confusing to say the least.
I do like the show & the book. I'm not surprised it's not on Netflix - it's on W Network & Showcase apparently.

As for lifespan - that's why the women were married so young - lifespan was a "generation" which is 40 years - that's "replacement" for the next generation to be born & able to look after themselves.

ROTFL! I am so NOT going to watch Outlanders now!

I started Shetland last night. Even tho I'm a wee bit Scottish I don't just fall into the dialect. I have the TV turned up like I'm deaf... Thankfully I'm back in the bedroom watching it.

Yes, at first she had no choice and had to make the best of it. But there was the clear opportunity to go back to her time after all those things happened and she married Jamie. She choose to stay.

You're right. I have the strong feeling she stayed because she not only felt a connection with Jamie & others (call it what you will), but that she felt more useful because no one else had the foreknowledge that she did, nor the medical expertise. Being the brainiac of the era had to feel GOOD Thumbs up Whistling

Great point. I never thought of it from that point of view.

Still to me so surprising that she wanted to stay with these violent superstitious people.
