Beautiful daffodils Neal, and thanks to you, there are now many more daffodils that I want. All of the blooms were amazing! Congrats on all of your blue ribbons!

Neal, how fragrant were the daffodils? I had heard that they could be a little overwhelming indoors.

Thank You! all so much!

Carl, the jonquillas and tazettas have strong perfume, but being mostly single stems or 3 stems of a variety in most submissions it wasn't enough to be overwhelming. From time to time while walking around I would get a light whiff of fragrance, but otherwise had to put my nose to the bloom to detect it. The room is a large high school cafeteria and was open enough space not to confine the fragrance much.

@coboro You may have heard that in relation to paperwhites (Div. 8, tazetta daffodils, usually forced inside over the winter). A few can overwhelm a room with fragrance.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

Some of the tazettas start out smelling kind of pleasant, but then take on a funk that makes me think of cat pee.

Hi all
len Lehman here- Our daffodil how will be held in Pittsburgh Pa on April 23rd at the Shadyside cademy ice rink, Fox Chapel Pa. Our season has been late so we will see more poeticus and late bloomers than usual. Most of the of the bird named daffs are from Havens nursery in Oregon- Elise did a wonderful job of introducing her gather's and her own creation for years but she retired a few years back and the nursery no longer is in operation. Many of those shown are available from Ringhdaddy Daffodils in Ireland(ships to US)

dera, those are all varieties that would come from a specialty grower. Here's a link to the American Daffodil Society listing specialty growers in various countries. And as Larry mentioned, make sure the varieties you order are suited for growing in the south.

I think that's more about protection against summer moisture, most are cold hardy and actually require a cold winter. Some varieties are highly susceptible to basal rot.

Some require more winter chill than others, but other than keeping that in mind, they should be happy kept in the ground in your area Suzanne. For the first time I had several that didn't return for a 2nd year show. I didn't lose all the bulbs of any particular variety, but noticed lots of cases of 1-3 bulbs out of the clump didn't return. We had such a wet summer last year, I believe that must have been the problem.
