My god, has this mild winter really bit my ........ I ordered from MichiganBulb.com, which for the record has great quality plants and amazing deals everyday. I got 51.25 dollars worth of plants for 25 dollars, everyday is a new deal. But ANYWAYS.... this shock in temperature has really tested them. These are my

Black knight butterfly bush, tango mint plant, and my beloved Olympiad rose (apparently the rose they had for the 84' olympics. Kinda neat!,,)

I brought them inside and going to try and rehabilitate them hopefully.

Just curious if anyone else has apparently take on this approach, or your scenario now or before.

If they die, you think they would resend them? There was nothing I could of done, it was mother nature I SWEAR. I'm a send them pictures right now so at least I have some form of accountability.
Thank you, B

I don't think any company should be shipping plants to/in Michigan right now. Except maybe evergreens. Even in a "normal" year April is too early to leave potted greenhouse plants outside day and night.

I will rant and curse with you. I do not have any new plants outside but I do have large pots of plants on the patio that I had taken some of the winter cover off because we had gotten so warm.

I had to do a mad dash to cover. I did not think they would die but I knew the new tender growth would be damaged and I would have bad looking pots the rest of the Spring and probably a good part of summer.

I've been warm all week and starting tonight we will have lows in the 30s for a few days. I just planted a couple nanking cherries because last I heard we would only get into mid 40s for lows. I hope they are happy enough that they don't die on me. Hilarious!

I just hope we don't have a repeat of a couple years ago and have a freak snowstorm in the middle of May here.

Oh, and the company has no problem re sending ANY plant I'm disgruntled about. And, now I also know not to order this early. This will be first year I start from beginning of year to start gardening

Brenden, most companies will not even send to Michigan until late April or early May. I always request my plants to come in May. If they come earlier you can put them outside but you have to watch the forecasts very carefully and be sure to bring them in if there is a chance of freeze/frost. In Michigan we still can get a damaging frost in May. It hasn't happened in several years but it is still possible. If you plant out a new item and they are calling for frost you can put a bucket or larger pot over it for the night. Also remember that mail order plants are greenhouse grown. So they have to be acclimated to being completely outside.

I am glad they will replace your plants.

Happy Gardening!

Haha! My father is a it more older than most, and I was reluctantly fortunate to learn all the good" music!
And lesson learnt in regards to when to buy, I am now kind of surprised THEY DID SHIP. Considering they say "we'll will ship when it is optimal for YOUR area.." not bashing on them by any means.. haha, I mean, they are MICHIGAN bulb.... haha, but aren't located in the state. Riddle me that!

I can not believe it is to snow tomorrow....rain and snow. I am so glad I did not put out any plants yet, but my daffodil field is a mess. Some of the hybrids never came up, others came up early, got snowed on, came up again, more freezing rain, and when they did finally have a few weeks to bloom the blooms did not last more than a few days. Poor babies out there in the cold they have no idea what to do. I think they will all be gone by tomorrow night. I could cry.

How they used to look this time of year. We put more bulbs in since then.

What is looks like now. Heartbreaking to watch them die. All the beautiful dutch hybrids are gone.

Thumb of 2016-04-08/JB/c36fcd

I used to sell them wholesale and here are the ones I used to sell to florists.....we sell none of them now. There aren't enough to make it worth the trouble. We just give them to friends and family and at least some people enjoy them.

Don't talk to me about weather. I am just hanging in there and the snow tomorrow may just put me over the edge. Shrug! Sighing! Grumbling Angry Thumbs down Sad Need I say more?

High 20s will be the low tonight. And tomorrow will still be windy. I just covered up my big tree peony since it's loaded with buds and covered my 2 new nanking cherries I planted the other day because earlier this week the weather only showed the lows in the 40s NOT 20s!! I would have waited if I had known it would get this cold. Grumbling Grumbling
