Thank you, all, very much for another fun-filled day, fantastic companionship, terrific food, gorgeous plants, and a wealth of information. I came home with my heart bursting with joy and my car full to the brim with plants and goodies eventhough I told myself every year I would not take anything home. It will take me days to sort them out, give things away and plant out all the loots. As I figure out where to plant them and sort through them, I am planning what to bring next year already.

I am so very sorry you got sunburn, Mickey and Seedrat. I hope you will feel better soon. I would not be surprised if oerickson got sunburn too. I would like to suggest to all of you sun protection clothing like what I had on - shirt and pants. Although it is synthetic, it keeps me **cool** all day and from sunburn.

I am sorry I did not keep my promise to you regarding the hat. I was on a lookout for it but could not find it anywhere I went. It is sold only in certain parts of Thailand. It is called Thai farmer hat online. I am checking whether it fares well during shipment. If people confirm that it comes through unscathed, I will get each of you one.

RolRod, Google maps says I live 1.7 miles from you. 😃 I forgot to bring leucojum with the rest, so I will drop it off tomorrow after swimming.

Seedrat, Indian rhubarb! Hahaha. Makes sense because my friend Shyamala gave me the plant! Rolling on the floor laughing And I was too tired to retreive the table cloths for use next year.

Jasmine, I have the stack of 1 gallon pots that linnea brought you.

I spent Sat chasing after my neighbors and offering them tomato and pepper plants. Hilarious! I planted cucumber and zucchini in my next door neighbor's vegetable garden. She will be surprised when she returns home tomorrow.

Happy Gardening, everyone.

Seedrat, I retreived the leucojum and gave it to Jasmine. It was meant for her all along. I had forgotten and misplaced the label - that' s all. I am sorry I forgot to tell you about it.

A-ha! I was surprised that it would just disappear, i thought someone might have started asking about it. Thanks for clearing up the mystery.

I was surprised that Luvtogarden burned through her clothes since I never have (even when not wearing a wide hat). I do have one sun shirt similar to yours but it's white and I don't want it to get ruined by gardening. My spray sunblock does work really well and isn't sticky (banana boat sport), i just need to realize that it will be a long day and I need to spray it all at the start.

Don't worry about the hats, i think shipping would be expensive. I think I've seen them in Asian stores here or maybe atlanta (where my friend could grab one for me). But keep that special thai bug spray coming, please! (if that's easy)

Pitimpinai, I can pick up the pots when it is convenient for you. I sent you treemail for address. Thank you so much for retrieving leucojum for me. This is the one plant I really love and can't wait to see it bloom next year.

RolRod, thank you so much for the annuals specially cleome. It would be first time I am planting this plant and would be great when it would bloom. Thank you so much.

I have finished about half my planting, hope to do the rest today.…

.....except for the tomato plants, most of which will be in containers, and I have to find large ones and get enough potting soil. Or dig out more sod!

Annette, your “favorite” currant tomatoes and Gardener’s Delight: containers, or in the ground?

About sedum Ruby mantle: are the flowers pink or red? Thanks. Such a pretty leaf shape! I don't have anything like it.

oerickson, I am wondering if I should grow on the heuchera and Campanula seedlings in the cups for a while before planting them out. There were still some left at the end, so I took them in addition to the ones you brought me. There should never be an unadopted heuchera!

Thanks to everyone who brought me goodies! I think of you fondly as I plant them and watch them flourish.

My husband came home early on Friday as I was loading the car. He asked, “Do you honestly have customers for all that?!” Customers, LOL.

I did not bring as many daffodil bulbs as I planned. It seemed like it started to pour every time I got to digging them. I still have to dig out more, but will put that on the back burner now. If anyone will be close by, I can save some for you. I live in Buffalo Grove.

If you want I can always ID them for you when they bloom. Once separating it might take a year to grow to blooming size.

Jasmine, sure. Absolutely. I responded to your message and gave you my address.

Hurray! Rolling on the floor laughing I am showing off some of my goodies from oerickson.
These photos were taken this morning.
This vegetable bed was rebuilt and expanded 4 or 5 years ago.

All those tomatoes came from oerickson, of course. They are blooming! (The tomato flowers are not visible in the photo, though, the yellow flowers that we see are on Chinese lettuce that bolted).

This one was built earlier this year in wait for the swap:

Linnea, i think of swap people as customers sometimes, too! Especially when I wonder if they'll take all the agastache I bring (which is why I print out a propaganda poster. Ha ha, I "sold out" of them early this year Smiling )

And...I feel kind of guilty for declining to cut that juncus apart a second time. A lady wanted a smaller piece and if any of you saw me doing the first cut, it was sweaty work and stinky roots. perhaps she could just take the big piece? I think John took on the challenge and I ran away. Bad customer service!!

Also, I don't recall what color the sedum blooms. I finally have it in a spot where it's happy, maybe it hasn't even bloomed before.

I've grown white currant in containers and it didn't change the flavor. I don't recall growing gardener's delight in a container. being in containers can stress tomatoes because they go through so much water, but that doesn't mean they don't still produce well. If you can put them in the ground I think you'll find it's easier to keep up with watering them.

Does anyone else have a differing opinion on that?

Also, does anyone recognize this plant? I think I got it at the swap in a previous year. plant id forums are not recognizing it. Oerickson?

Seedrat, My heart skipped a beat when I first saw your picture thinking could it be the Chinese Mayapple that two people recently told me would make me forget the native Mayapple. Whatever it is, it is gorgeous!

Ooh, yes, I remember reading about them and lusting after the patterned ones. People were talking about one nursery that used to import them and is closed now. My mystery plant does look quite a bit like that. I wish I knew where to plant it, I guess I'll go for shade?

Looks like its original owner might have planted it in the sun since a couple hitchikers are lilies. I would try part shade and maybe in a couple years you can bring me a piece of it, huh, huh, huh? 😉

I am happy to report that almost all of the extra tomato plants that I took at the end have found good homes through friends and others at the community garden. Thank you for sharing them.

Jasmine, I am sorry. I took home the phlox that Linnea had brought for you. When we were taking the "holds" table down at the end I knew that you had left and I didn't want the plant to end up as compost. It didn't occur to me that people would pick up plants at a later date. Please accept my apologies.

I am wondering if anyone can help me identify this plant. I honestly have no recollection of taking it at the swap, but there it was when I arrived home. It is not labeled so I have no idea where I should plant it. I'd love some guidance (brown spots on the leaves are normal markings on the plant not disease or damage).

Thank you again everyone. I am a happy gardener indeed!

Happy, it looks like basil. If you rub the leaves, do they give out any aroma?

Aww, I am just surfacing a bit. For one, many many thanks to everyone- we pulled another swap!!! And the weather stayed with us, am thinking compliments of Esther.
Happy, this is oenothera speciosa, should bloom pink and best for sunny dry areas.
Pitimpinai, those are some cool beds!!! and you obviously doing great job with those tomatoes, you might have a jungle a bit later though LOL
Seedrat, thank you for finding the name for cow parsley! I love this plant but could not remember the name. Re the picture- could it be Mukdenia? I know I grew it couple of years ago from seed...
Linnea, I am keeping heuchera in the pots till they get a bit bigger but if you have empty space with nothing overshadowing them, it will work too. Thanks for giving them a home!
Yuck, I did get sunburn on my front neck... talk about being cloudy day...
Am still in process on transplanting- upplanting- weeding-watering...

Ooh, Mukdenia seems correct! I knew I'd had it awhile and it was probably a wee thing when I put it in that pot. I run a sprinkler in one area and tend to accumulate a lot of pots in that spot. It's in the ground now, and it seems like it wants to spread, pitimpinai.

I had another idea for next year: if we have those cardboard trays like Oerickson got this year--or anything like that--we can put a name for each of us pre-traders, then we know exactly where to look for our plants, or where to put plants for another person so he/she will find them.

The shelf may be better utilized on its side, as a wall to block the view of the plants being held! Or maybe we can just put the plants behind the dumpster...

I was supposed to get a native celandine but I don't have one--I don't know if someone grabbed it, if I left it behind absent-mindedly, or if the trader forgot to put it by my other plants. I could have grabbed one from the tables but I "knew" I had one in the hold area. Oh well, I can probably get one next year!
