Off early this morning to pick up lots of fresh produce from the farmers market, and to get my order that was shipped from Beaver Creek Greenhouses on the bus. Roger said he sent it yesterday, warning me by email to expect it - but I got a call from Greyhound last night at 9pm that it was here. It was too late to go last night, so I was there when they opened at 8am!

Here's what they sent me ( a few things were not available, so I gave permission to sub with other succulents):

Acanthalimon acerosum v. acerosum (NHOI)
Delosperma basuticum (NHOI)
Orostachys limuloides - purple form (this looks suspiciously like Sedum brevifolia, and has white flowers - could he have sent me the wrong thing???)
Orostachys minuta - Gorgeous!
Sedum ewersii
Sedum griffithsii
Sedum obtusifolium
Sedum x 'Moonglow'
Talinum sediforme (NHOI)
Yucca glauca - good thing it was a bonus plant, as I would never have ordered it, but I'll try it for a contrast.

So now for some pics:

I got this far, then thought you might want to see the neat way they were all packed - no way these are going to move!
Thumb of 2010-07-30/BlueFox/e6e53c

Here's the lovely Orostachys minuta - the largest rosette is all of about the size of a quarter, with many smaller ones around it.

Then the complete order. All things considered, I think I'm pretty happy with it. I will, however, see if I can get a credit for the wrongly tagged Sedum brevifolia - I have tons of it, and I certainly wouldn't pay $6 for it!

Oh, and in case you're wondering, NHOI means, Never Heard Of It!

Oh what a treasure trove. My favorite is Orostachys minuta. Is it hardy? Please, can you add them to the Companion Plant Database?
I will have dreams tonight of little Orostachys minuta. Lovey dubby

I like the Orostachys minuta too - very unique! That is a great packing job for when plants are shipped in pots.

Yucca glauca is a beautiful plant! It does get kind of large - 2' high by 1' wide - approximately. They can be larger or smaller depending on growing conditions. It gets very sharp leaf-ends. I think I may have a photo of one in a garden here in MN. I'll see if I can find it and I'll post it here if I do find the photo.

From a comment by someone I worked for, they don't respond well to visits - I'm pretty sure they only do mail order. I won't be ordering from them again, due to the difficulty in getting any kind of response if you have a problem. Not very good customer service.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot - I was planning on ordering from them again, but won't be bothering now.

Plus they sent a misnamed plant - they called it Orostachys but it was actually Sedum dasyphyllum. How disappointed was I, you ask?

Also, they have the dreaded bacterial crown gall on some of the Sedum that I ordered, so never mind...

Yes, that is very good to know.
I have my first order in with Mesa Gardens. http://cubits.org/sedumandsemp...
They sell both seeds and plants. Plants are late this year because of the weather this year in New Mexico. As soon as I get my plants I will post over in the thread I started for their nursery. We'll see how it goes.
