Sheesh Margaret, our wild ones never look that good! Maybe they need more sun than they typically get in the woods? Love the fall colors! They are pretty!! We make jelly and jam out of the berries too! Yummy! And they are pretty good just on ice cream too Drooling

Mine get sun all morning and are mostly neglected because they are outside the fence on the hillside where they pretty well fend for themselves. Hilarious! We don't care for the berries so the birds are welcome to them. Smiling

Big Grin I don't care for the work and time involved, so I have a great arrangement with my wonderful MIL! I provide her with the jars and fruit, and she does all the jelly and jam making, and then we split the finished project Hurray! Love the arrangement Hilarious! Hurray!

Make me miss my MIL more. We stay in touch a couple of times a year but she was a bright light in a bad marriage and that's the kind of thing we would have done.

I did talk to her recently. Its careful though, we just check in and chat, much about family stuff because she had 4 boys and EX was the oldest so, we kind of helped 'raise' the younger ones. The marriage ended when he and one of our mutual friends conceived so there are 'boundaries' we observe. I'll tell you though, having to divorce from a 'family' that I love(d) so much was harder than the rest.

Those service berries ARE spectacular! I have never seen them that colorful before. I know there are many varieties, I wonder how much soil PH has to do with that?

Thanks for the comments on the Service berries, glad you all like them. I would like to add the photos to the database but I don't know what variety they are as they were here when we bought the house. I think the PH is pretty high here, I plan on buying a soil test meter or kit this year so I will check it where they are growing.

If your baby service berry is similar to mine I think you will be very happy with it when it gets a little bigger. Thumbs up

Snowing again here this morning. But at least I have a tiny bit of spring in the GH. I can never seem to grow lettuce and spinach in the spring outdoors here, so I thought I'd give it a try indoors. Two kinds of lettuce, salad burnet, and some garlic a friend gave me that had started to sprout. Oh, and some green onions. Maybe I'll have me some early salad! Smiling

I read about the cedar waxwings liking service berries, so I thought I'd share a pic of a juvinile ceder waxwing I took last summer. They nested in one of my apple trees. Think they liked the mulberries near by. He just sat on the stem of my Cordon Blue day lilly and let me take the picture. He was too cute. Are service berries good to eat?
