Someone speak! 241 (good quality) spring bulbs and various (B&D hybird) lilies are in. I'm freezing and my knees hurt. Why am I wondering if Steins and Walmart still have bins of really cheap bulbs to put in odd spots?

my goodness - check here now and then, but thought everyone had forgotten us "nawthnr's"! Rolling on the floor laughing
I look at my garden and yard and think - so much for the growing season! We've already had several freezes so my garden looks pretty forlorn. Sticking tongue out Shrug!

I was wondering where you were Susan. How's it going? Are you working for your friend with the computer place yet?

I can't imagine Calgary in winter. Brrrrrrr......

My friend pulled out from his partner in the computer place - partner was doing things behind his back AND insulted my friend & his phillipino wife! And my friend had an iron-clad lawyer-written contract so he was able to pull out without any repercussions.
I'm working for a global power company and have been there for 2 1/2 weeks. They want someone permanently, unfortunately I have to be there as a temp for 3 months before they consider me. Rolling my eyes.

We had our Garden Closing Ceremony on Oct. 23. We brought the container plants in over the next week. I spent the other day cleaning them all up, putting saucers under them. Shopped for a hose and nozzle the other day (for the plants we overwinter downstairs which is all concrete floors, and some rooms with floor drains). We have a hose bib down there as well. Remember, we have a small RV park, so the entire lower level is bathrooms and showers, office, and our 'Lodge Room'. The problem is, the plants downstairs tend to get neglected. That's why I'm going for the hose... easier to water than lugging the heavy huge watering can around. So, that's what I've been doing. And, transitioning into winter, which means I need lots of fun and creative and happy interaction... hope you are all doing well and I also hope all of you in the Northeast are getting power back and mostly that you and your families are safe!

That's too bad Susan but at least your friend took care of protecting himself with a good contract. Wonderful about your job & I don't think you'll have any problem securing the permanent position.

I hope not - I have the personality for the company, and I can learn the work - a bit of a learning curve, but that won't be a prob as long as I'm given the time TO learn! Whistling Big Grin

Glad you're all back! We need to keep this thread alive. I had dug a whole new area of the yard up and put in new perennials (you are right Ann, 'addicted) over that last 2 years (because I have so little area in the sun). The problem was that it means coming out the back door and walking around the area to get to the more shaded patio side. Inky was used to taking a sharp right and was walking on the planting area so I bought these cute little white picket fence panels and we put them up around the new spot today. Inky was curious but has now learned to walk where the flagstone path will go in (oh my aching back) next spring. Once he learns, we may not need the short fence but it is really kind of cute with my cottage look. Plus, I'm thinking of a way to put that anti-bunny mesh on the inside for the early spring.

Nice, Jamie! How are you feeling? Susan, I agree with Ann... you'll do great! A lot of jobs you have to start with what you can get, then work your way up. Go get 'em!

Ha! Jamie - you'll need the little fence for the anti bunny mesh. Inky already has the new rules down & the fence is no longer necessary for him. But I agree it must look nice with your cottage look.

Yeah, he almost had it down because I didn't get the stone path down this year but I had a hose laying down the center and I would tell him to walk by the hose. He would do that but once the larger plants went dormant (and I cut them back) he'd get ahead of me and circle back around through the plant area. for me to 'catch-up'. Now he can't so he waits at the top.

I need to figure out the best way to attach anti- bunny mesh on the inside though. This is not THICK board fencing, it is white wood but more like the width that lattice is made from. I don't think stapling is a good option thus. Thinking maybe a caulk bead, then some white duct tape over once the mesh is smuched into the caulk. Then tack it to the ground with small stakes or large headed (roofing) nails. That would make it easy to remove in when bunny-threat season subsides. Last year they ate an expensive bunch of B&D lilies off right at ground level! Denise says the should come back this year though; I sure HOPE so!

Inky LOVES rabbits! He will chase everything else but every year since I got him, he has adopted a nest of babies and carries them to me in his mouth from the nest. We put them back for the mother to feed and check on them daily. Once they crawl out of the nest he helps them walk by pushing them along gently with his nose. The crazy dawg needs a puppy to take care of I think.

Or you could try sandwiching the mesh between the fencing & some tomato type stakes pounded into the ground & use cable ties to secure the mesh & the tomato stakes to the white fencing. There are landscape fabric pegs which you could use to tack the mesh to the ground. Just thinking here.......

I think Inky wants a puppy to raise.

Good, thank you. I actually have an old tent (from the days before prefab) stowed in its pouch on a shelf downstairs. I am sure it is rotten and, at best might be cut up and turned into a lawn wastetote or dragging thing but it DOES have a couple of types of really nice aluminum stakes (and telescoping poles that might be good for something else). Cable ties are a good idea if connected to other than the 'fence'. It is really pretty lightweight, more intended to be decorative I think.

Tent stakes are a great idea. You might even need to get a few more. Garage sales this time of year..... who wants to use a tent in the winter time?

Yep, nobody wants these older tents anymore but viewed as canvas and hardware they can be quite a different thing. I'll have to pull it out this winter and look it over.

ok everyone - wish with me for my Datura to rebound and be "see-able" enough to take it to the office. They have Artificial Plants in the office ewwwwwwwwwwwwww! They have ONE saving grace - a beautiful peace lily that's got one beautiful flower on it. It only get sporadic waterirng, and the flower was white when I started. I took over the watering, and now the white flower has gone green! Any ideas why? Is it more watering?

Also, my datura is leggy - it was bushy, then it missed some waterings and when I picked up on it again, the leaves continued to dry up and fall off. there's some new growth on the leggy parts, but the leaves look all twisted, not nicely shaped at all. And they're a lighter green than usual - more of a "granny smith apple" than the dusty dark green - any ideas? Could it just be because it's inside that the leaves are light? If that's the case, it's ok - I have natural light at the office, and the leaf colour will pick up I'm sure. But the stilted, twisted leaves?!? Blinking Confused
