Trying to convey our thoughts/feelings/desires about the NGA is a bit like asking someone to please explain their philosophy on life in 100 words or less. Nevertheless, I'll give it another go- maybe giving you a couple of other thoughts will help explain a little bit more:
ATP was primarily a website.
The NGA is a national organization with a long history which we hope to revive to it's formal glory as the years go on. It goes far beyond a website, and an online community, even though that will be an integral part of it- but it is still just a PART of the NGA- not the whole. I'm thinking that's where some of the distress comes from. Some of you are looking at the NGA as just a website, which is now "US only"--this is not the case. The NGA is (or was, and will again be) an organization with many different outlets.
The website and the community will continue to be just as it is now. Nothing but the name, and eventually some layout issues, will change for all of you.
For Dave and I (and our family), we have taken on the task of the rest of the NGA and it's mission- this will, over time, include encouraging, teaching, gardeners- bringing together the gardening industry- the educators, the vendors, and the gardeners. Working closely with all 3 of these groups. Working with conferences, grants, and programs across the US. These are physical things, that really don't have anything to do with our online family here. So, when I say that the NGA has a US mission, I mean that the NGA as a WHOLE- my day-to-day job as I'm working with business, educational establishments, and event coordinators- these are all US events/organizations/people. This part of the NGA is 100% our responsibility as we build it back up, and does not affect our online community at all.
As an aside: While at one time, when the NGA has many many employees, there may have been grants given to our worldwide gardening friends, our (The Whitingers) focus *on that aspect of the NGA* will remain just here in the US, simply because of logistics. We have a hugely huge job ahead of us just right here, and we want to give it our full attention.
So, in a short summary, the NGA is far more than a website. But the website will remain very important and running just as it always has as a part of a reviving organization whose focus is as much face-to-face as it is online.
