Hi Salvia people! I'm visiting from the BBB forum (that's birds, butterflies, and bees). I've been to Lowe's three times in the past week or so and I took lots of pictures for the plant database. I was surprised to see a couple Salvias that didn't have pictures yet, so I thought I might tempt some of you by pointing you in their direction.

Scarlet Sage (Salvia splendens Saucy™ Red) I think I'm going to have to go back and buy a couple of these. They were really nice. Quite tall, too.

Mealycup Sage (Salvia farinacea Sallyfun™ Blue Emotion)

Also, I forget where I read it, maybe on a Salvia of the Day, but thanks to you guys for recommending 'Amistad'. I bought some a few weeks back and although they're still small, I'm really liking them!

Great pics! Thank you for submitting pics to the Salvia database. There are a lot of Salvia varieties without pics, so I'm so glad you did.

At our Lowe's, we don't have desirable salvias, but I wish we did.

Amistad is a wonderful and beautiful salvia to grow every year! Hummers love it! Give it time as, it will get big!

Thank You! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

Always glad to help out the plant database. We get a lot of different varieties down here in Florida. I'm going to have to go snatch up a couple of those 'Saucy Red' Salvias. I'm sure I can find some place to put them! Hilarious!

Melanie,

I got my 'Saucy Red' a few weeks ago from Home Depot. Green Grin! I'm procrastinating on getting the photos uploaded so you beat me to the bonus acorn! Hilarious!

I know that tag says full sun, but Salvia splendens does a lot better in part sun here in the south. Morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal. They will keep their color better and the actual flowers (rather than just the colorful calyces) will remain on the plant longer.

BTW, there is also a 'Saucy Wine' which is a very deep PURPLE! Big Grin

Yeah, I'm thinking I better go get them tomorrow before the weekend crowd shows up and buys everything! I have all my Salvias planted in part shade because Florida sun is not like other sun. Rolling on the floor laughing I have 'Mystic Spires', 'Black and Blue', and the aforementioned 'Amistad'. So, I definitely need more, right? Thumbs up Danita, don't tempt me with purple! That's my favorite color!

I did, Marilyn! Green Grin! *Blush*

It is a smaller, 1 gallon plant though and I haven't gotten it planted yet. It may be a while before I have a good photo, though. Unfortunately, yesterday was unseasonably hot and arid and I'm afraid that I let 'Saucy Wine' get very wilted. She looked more sauced than saucy. I put her in a saucer (a sauced Saucy saucer?) of water last night and she looked better this morning but the flowers are shot. Sad

Thanks, Marilyn! The plant is fine now, it was just the flowers that fell off under the stress. I've moved it to a shadier spot that's also closer to the water spigot. Big Grin

Not the greatest photos, but here is 'Saucy Wine'. Green Grin!

I love it when a Salvia splendens variety has the more elongated "tails" on the bracts. Lovey dubby
