'Red October' is a medium-sized hosta that is a hybrid of longipes hypoglauca x 'Harvest Delight'. It's one of the best of the hostas with red petioles. The upright habit displays leaves that arch. The dark gray/green foliage with a silver-white back makes a symmetrical clump. It blooms very, very late in the season and is often covered with bloom when not much is left of the foliage. Ann, I have this hosta, 7-10 years old, seems like it does not hold up well from a lack of moisture compared to other hostas. Sometimes when we have a lack of rainfall this one just flops over, where none of the other hostas seem to exhibit this trait.
