It would be helpful to know where the plant is located. It reminds me of a weed that I keep pulling up.

I'm taking a risk, my first thought was a form of the wild Viola tricolor

Wait for it to flower which by the looks won't be long.

Its in my garden and has a bunch of buds on it but nothing blooming

Sara, we need to know where on the Earth you and your plant are. Your particular climate narrows down the possibilities of what plant you might have. My first guess was chrysanthemum, but they wouldn't be putting out buds right now. As Janet says, once a flower opens, we'll have a much easier time figuring out what it is.
