Is there a way to print my plant list all at once instead of one page at a time? What I would really like is to print just the 'Plant' column so that I can import it into my label file to print new labels.

I don't think you can print a specific column, but you can print the page. On the top right portion of your plant list page you will see a printer image. Click on the and it will give you a printer friendly version.

As far as I know there is no way to do that, Rick; but I'd also love for that to be possible!

We cross-posted, Jay -- I didn't know there was a printer-friendly version *Blush* (but am very happy to learn that there is!)

If you want to print your list all at once instead of one page at a time, as you said, go to the "Change your site preferences" link on your profile page, scroll down to "Show how many items per page," and choose a number higher than the number of plants you have on your list (105). That will put your entire plant list on one page.

I usually "select" the table with my mouse, then copy it to an MS Word document.

Usually it would paste itself as a "table". I haven't tried recently on a Plant List, but it worked with most (all?) of the seed swap artifacts.

Then I could easily delete the parts I did NOT want, and print the rest. I work with MS Word tables a lot, to print double-sided labels. They have a nice laser printer at work, that will print double-sided, with registration/alignment of front and back usually better than 1 mm.

>> What I would really like is to print just the 'Plant' column so that I can import it into my label file to print new labels.

In your case, after copy-pasting into the editor of your choice, you could probably select just the "name" column, copy just that column, and paste just that column.

S W E E T ! ! !

Much easier to work with. Thanks all !

@RickCorey ... Here's what I did

Per @ZuZu , I set the page size to 200 (only have 105 items in my list)
Per @Horntoad, clicked on the 'Print this page' to get a less-cluttered version.

I selected and copied the resulting page and pulled it into Word and deleted the Status, Notes and Events columns
Sort the table on the remaining 'Plant' column
Convert the table to text

What you have left is your plant list, including the hyperlinks into the plant database. I got rid of those by copying the list into a plain text editor and then back into Word. The list remains, but without the links.

Since my labels will hold 3 lines of text at 9pt, I
converted the line breaks to page breaks
converted the left paren to a line break
converted the right paren to nothing

I'm left with a file that contains all of my plants formatted so each will print on a separate label.

I keep thinking that any reply detailed enough to "teach" how to do a thing deserves being saved as a "tip" with screenshots. Or maybe a thread buried in the "Site Talk" forum, with each "tip" as one post in the thread.

Then we could star each post in that thread, and be prepared to answer any question about using the site with just: "Here's how ..." and a link.

And the thread itself would be a resource for ambitious users.

I started saving screenshots on my PC, but finding them at need was too slow.

There's an article from Dave called "Little Known Facts About ATP" ( http://garden.org/ideas/view/d... ) -- but, I'm not sure how many people ever see it.

@RickCorey ... I'm workin' on it. I'm writing it up to the point of saving as plain text before formatting the labels as not everyone will have Word Perfect, which is waaaaaay superior to MS Word for label generation.

I SO agree with that! I've loved WP since an early DOS version (3.0?). Still using WP 8 Thumbs up

Pretty sure Word Perfect is one of the many products I infinitely preferred to Microsoft products ... until I had to import them into an MS-only workplace or send them to a customer who only knows ONE editor and ONE OS.

"One OS to rule them all, one OS to bind them ... "

I think that's a misquote, but I hope the reference to Sauron, source of all evil, comes through.

As they say, "compatible" is BETTER than "better".

Great! Much appreciated!

And thanks for the link, Sandy. I read that once, long ago.

@WeedWhacker Sandy, I'm using WordPerfect 11. I still bounce between WP 10 nd 11 and MS Word 2000 and 2010. In a pinch, I can even use WP 5.1 for DOS.

THere are some things I like better in Word and some that I like better in WP. Too bad no one will take the best of both. (Actually, they would probably get sued by Apple if the did because it would undoubtedly infringe on some obscure patent that they dreamed up 20 years ago. Apple: Rotten to the core.)

My first encounter with WP was on a computer with 2 floppy (yes, the really floppy) disk drives and no hard drive... ah, for the good old days! nodding

No kidding... it would be really great if all this kind of stuff could be in one place. @RickCorey , maybe you could write an "ATP/NGA for Dummies" book (in your spare time, of course)! Smiling

No, No, No !!! It would be 24 volumes of 1000 pages each ( a conservative estimate) and would definitely not be suitable for dummies. Rolling on the floor laughing

So, does that mean you're volunteering to write the book? Big Grin

Well I would love to but I am a terrible writer. I love to research, but I have trouble when it come down to organizing and put the information into words.
