Frilly I didn't even know there was a yellow knockout. Gotta have it now. I have the red and it definitely has a scent.

I like a touch of yellow here and there but too much is too much... like this:

Thumb of 2016-06-02/CarolHB/460e2f

I like the pot and the lantana, but what did I do to deserve that yellow "thing" in the sago. There's three of them across the street. At least I've only got the one to see every time I step out my front door. Thumbs down

CarolHB, that is the male flowering cone of your sago palm. I think it looks cute. Lovey dubby

Okay, so about yellow. I confess I have a lot of it going on these days (and not just with dandelions). The yarrow 'moon glow' is brilliant when first blooming and caught in the afternoon sun. It certainly announces summer to me.

tarev, I know its the male flowering cone. I just don't see the point in finding one every am in my front yard. I can think of less public places to enjoy the presence, but maybe not if its yellow. Whistling

You are so funny CarolHb Hilarious! Hilarious! ...well, to each her own preference indeed..I would rather have growth with yellow colors, than brown and dead in our drought stricken lands here. I hope my cycad tries to make some bloom cones too! Big Grin

You can have mine, tarev - just bring your shovel. It won't be long before that thing is covering half the neighbor's driveway and most of my winter sun area. At which point I will find a way to bring it to heel. What would happen if I cut off the cone?

Could you knit a cover for it so it would look like a rose or an iris? Remember those who knitted toilet paper covers, as though no one would have any idea what was short, round, and sat atop a toilet tank?

Thanks for the offer CarolHB Hilarious! , I have my own cycad here. One of the few plants that endures our furnace summer heat and then the cold dip of winter easily. Yeah, either camouflage it or remove the cone. That plant is so resilient anyways. Smiling

I do not like really washed out peach, especially with a touch of red in the center, like some Rhoddies. It reminds me of spitting at the dentist when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. That was a bit gross, sorry guys. Smiling I love white, light and dark blues, of campanula, the shades lupins come in. any delicate wood like flower. I love most all hostas, the yellow or blue ornamental grasses. Ferns, I love watching something grow, unless it is light peach.

ShadyGreenThumb said:I love all colors, I just don't like all colors together. I have to have some semblance of "order" with my colors. I can't put it into words, but I can tell when it's just wrong. In my shade garden it's easy, several shades of greens and yellow-greens. But it's there that I keep my eye on leaf/plant textures and make sure they contrast,

I agree; I doubt I make choices as well as ShadyGreenThumb, but that's my idea in my head. I like the chartreuse and yellow greens in shade, and do not like many of the rusty brownish Heucheras- they don't do well for me, and dark foliage disappears in the shade.
I try to use just a few colors in an area. I'm more colorful this year than I've been. I have small yellow marigolds dotted around the vegetable garden. Pots have purple petunias and tricolor wandering jew, mainly purple and copper colors.
The wildest thing I have now is a bed with one bright orange big daylily, Black and Blue salvia, and a few little red Nicotiana, and a few gloriosa lilies. Spots of bright colors with enough foliage to calm it down. The daylily should be done soon and gladiolus start. (red?)
Plant it and they will come.

The only color I cannot abide in my garden is off-white. I bought an oriental poppy called "Royal Wedding" that was supposed to be white, but when it flowered it was very pale gray. Ick! It looked so horrible, I had to dig it up right away. I also dislike flowers that fade to brown. I am very conflicted about Rosa rugosa 'Henry Hudson' because the flowers are a lovely perfect white, but the petals don't always drop, and I end up with a bush covered in brown, wrinkled blobs.

Redder the better for me but I enjoy blooms of most every color and how landscapers and home-scapers work with them. I soak in alot viewing local hodge-podge landscapes and how their combinations could work for me or my clients. At home everything is an experiment with the same end goal.

I can't think of a garden color that bothers me. I don't like to wear flamboyant colors but I love the blooms.

My taste in flowers is far broader my taste in clothing... Sticking tongue out
