I found that too. I have to actually select a letter first and then the pages work.

If i just type in part of the name it goes to that entry, but will not find the entry if the complete name is typed in.

That's interesting - it's the slash in the name that's breaking it. I will see what I can do to get around that problem.

When I search for roses with hyphenated names, I'm told my "query is non-computable."

The listings are sorted by cultivar, not species. This is a behavior that you specifically asked for, actually. Smiling

"arachnoideum f/ Abbruzzi" is a species name, not a cultivar, so you will find this plant grouped with the species that start with the letter a.

The search engine is erroneously interpreting that dash as a "negative" operator, meaning "don't match anything that follows the dash." I am looking for the solution to make it not do that.

I'm sorry Dave, maybe I'm just tired. I don't see it listed under A. http://garden.org/plants/brows...

You are looking under the cultivar names so in this case the semps without species names are listed first through all the alphabetical cultivar names and then the species names are listed next. Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum arachnoideum 'from Abruzzi')
I was going to sat it was on page 6 but I was not sure if everyone has the same page set up.

I also tried it by searching with 'Sempervivum arachnoideum' and then just 'arachnoideum' and your entry was at the bottom of both search lists.

I don't have any trouble finding it by doing a search. But if I'm just scrolling through the alphabet it isn't listed in the A's.

Lynn, when you click on the "A" you are restricting your view to only plants that have a cultivar name that start with A. But the plant you are referring to does not even have a cultivar name at all.

Do you remember back when we tree mailed back and forth several times, trying to figure out what to do with the species that contain an "f/" field? We decided to standardize on what everyone else out there is doing, and include that information with the species.

With the plant "Sempervivum arachnoideum", the word "arachnoideum" is the species, not the cultivar.

With the plant Sempervivum 'Abba', the word "Abba" IS the cultivar.

I understand that part. What I don't understand is if I am just scrolling through the list of semps where would the ones that are just species be?
