A beautiful lilly type amaryllid flowering in the garden mid fall after frosts.

the leaves are lanceolate and are visible in the pìc. It is a hardy bulb and does not require lifting. Any idea?

Looks like Zephyranthes to me too.

Zephyranthes candida is a widespread species that can be found growing in the wild from the southern United States to South America. It is thought to be native to Argentina and Uruguay and is found along rivers and in marshes where it gets year round rainfall except for a brief period in late summer. This species may be more widely grown than any other of the genus. It blooms in fall in response to rain storms.

It's hard to say for certain since the photo is a little blurry, but it looks more like something in the Iridaceae.
It could likely be one of the pink forms of Hesperantha coccinea (aka Schizostylis coccinea.)

My friend who grow it here in his garden calls it Vara de San José, however that common name is given to at least 5 different genera, none asociated with Zephyrantes. Z. candida has the general looks but the PBS page only shows white flowers. This seems slightly different, however it could be a hybrid that has been bred for pink. It is not a local native wildflower; the size of the bloom is about 7 cm wide and each scape has many flowers open at the same time. In his garden that is very close to the Nahuel Huapi lake it grows in a wet marshy condition and winter temperatures hardly drop very much below -3C. Even when it snows , snow doesn't stay for long. His population multiplies easily and is a very ornamental addition for fall flowers in mild areas. Thus I would tend to agree that it may be a rain lilly however I still doubt that it is a Z.candida. I agree with Danita that it's in the Hesperantha genus. The bloom time and number of stamens look right. Water loving also.

I checked out Schizostylus as I thought the flowers resembled those I once had but the leaves don't seem to match that. If I remember correctly the leaves were a paler brighter green and a little narrower. I found a photo of one which looks like it though!

These are the Schizostylus I had for several years, unfortunately they both disappeared. The red one was S. coccinea Major, the other I didn't know the name.

That looks very much like it. I think it must be the moist environment that gives them a more robust growth. Here it's a hardscrabble life for anything that likes water or humidity. Ours is three and I forget about it completely until it blooms at what seems to me to be an odd time. But very welcomed. I haven't tried rain lilies but after reading the article, good one by the way Janet, I will keep an eye out. edit I thought the stamens look right but a better photo would have helped.

The leaves on mine had a ridge running down the middle, that's one thing which put me off. I've blown up the pic, I think the leaves have a ridge. Not sure about the stamens though! They seem to vary on this plant, not at all like those on mine but different species have different stamens. There's also no spike of buds visible like mine had, much like a gladiolus spike, again that varies with species.

Not very many choices for fall bloomers like this. I'll check out the foliage on ours tomorrow. Yours were luscious. How did they disappear? There were so many and they look so happy.

I don't know why they disappeared, they thrived for several years. I don't remember when they were no longer growing, it might have been the dreadfully hard winter we had in 2010/11 when we had 7 weeks straight constantly below freezing, down to at least -17C with maximum temperature one day being -7C! That's not normal for here, some winters we only get about 4 frosts to -5C or a little lower.

Is it mean that it have more than one flower per scape ? How they arrange ? On spike like gladiols ? Or in umbel like amaryllis ?

As long as i know zephyranthes only come in single flower per scape.

Yes that would certainly do them in. I think our coldest was -8C but thats not normal here either and it killed lots of things that had been growing for decades. Such a big loss with those for you. $ I've strayed... Our H. coccinea has so few flowers on the inflo that when they open they obscure the unopened buds when a few flowers open.
