I have Caryopteris 'Sunshine Blue' and Deutzia 'Chardonnay Pearls' getting afternoon sun and the yellow foliage really glows. Both are protected by the garage on the north side though against most of the winter wind. Check the cold tolerance on the first one though. They both survived the two horrible winters we had. The Caryopteris does self-sow in both the yellow foliage and common green foliage which can be a plus if you like the shrub. Weigelas are nice too with several different colors of foliage and flower. Some will do a sporadic second flowering after pruning.

In order to plant in an area that has fill sun in the afternoon, use any shrub that is has a range of full sun to partial shade. Missouri Botanical Gardens has a searchable list and includes plants of merit. Here is the web site url for the plant finder. http://www.missouribotanicalga...

Check out Antique Rose Emporium and I think Roses Unlimited has been getting good reviews lately too. You can always tell her she's not allowed anything that is easily found around there. The rose needs to be different. Hilarious!

I just bought 2 Graham Thomas roses from ARE myself and they are a really nice size. I plan to get them in the ground tomorrow so they can start to take off on me.
