My mother has collected Daylilies over the last 10 years or so. She has gotten my so interested in the daylily but she doesn't know the cultivars of the Daylilies she has. She knows a few not many. I am so intrigued by the amazing flower. I have read searched talked and dreamt of how to identify and tag her collection so that one day I may be the heir to this collection as I start my own journey into the Hemerocallis world. Can I get help with some of these? I promise not to do all in one thread but as days go by I hope to have them sorted.

Welcome! Sheri

and good luck with you quest. I cant say what the top one is but, the bottom one looks like,

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Return a Smile')

When posting new, could you also include the height of the scape and the size of the bloom? It will help in identifying some of them.
I tip my hat to you.

it is a very common inexpensive dl and advertised widely.

@Sherib381

Sheri, as you can see there are many that can look very similar. It would help if you knew where your mother purchased them as well as their characteristics. Such as scape length, size of the bloom, if the foliage is dormant in the winter months or if it stay green year round, if its scented, etc... etc....

Do you have any idea whether she may have purchased the daylilies from a local grower? If so, you may be able to go back to that person to see if they might know.

I'm afraid I don't have any guesses on either of these. Good luck on your search for names!

Thank you very much. Yes she said did purchase one from a guy at a swap meet and she remembers it being called always afternoon. She doesn't quite remember where she purchased them all except for the last 4 years she has been buy from a local lady who is a member of AHS. So she is helping us as well. This year she purchased "Orange Delicious" "Apache Sunrise" "Doo Wop" "Henrietta McIntyre" "My Friend Wayne" "Spacecoast Francis Busby" "Sparks Dancing With the Stars" "Missy's Smile" . I have a complete inventory of all purchases made from Ms Christie. I have names of some others that where purchased in North Ga. .So I'll research others. I just identified " Moses Fire " this morning. Yes some maybe a little common but I'd like to know their identity as well. You guys are great. If I may I'd like to ask for help on another.

Welcome Sheri!

Don't fret about some being a little common. If by common you mean lots of folks have them, that is just a sign of the quality of the Daylily. If by common you mean old fashioned, some of the best daylilies out there have been around for awhile.

Look for daylilies you like, and not just the flower but the whole plant. Make sure you can grow it in your area. Plant it someplace that pleases you. Take good care of it. Do it all again and you will soon have a unique garden that is anything but common.

Good luck and enjoy the madness of it all!

Thanks you Charley for the inspiring words. I do have some old timey ones, as I like to call them, and from my research these beauties are anything but common. These are some my grandmother had in her garden when I was growing up. I don't know their names either. I call them Mema's Daylilies. I am finding the more I search and view gardens not to many people have these. Have a great day, Happy Memorial Day. And Thank You!
