I have a few favorites in that category:

Ebony Jewel

Black Ambrosia

and,
Smith Brothers

Of the three, the best for your zone would probably be the last one---Smith Brothers. Daylilies need at least five hours of full sun/ day to survive. Anything less and they go slowly (or fast) down hill. All three are pretty sunfast, so if you have a spot that will give them full morning light--they will remain dark all day without "melting".

I have two - three that have lived in the shade of 3 fairly large oak trees. They didn't grow as tall nor flower as much as when they had more sunlight but the blooms were beautiful all day long:
Caribbean Frank League - ~20-24 inches - rebloom - very dark

Night Wings - a bit taller at 26-30 inches -don't recall rebloom on this very dark bloom

Midnight Magic - midway in between these two in height - velvety in spades.

My favorite is Sir Modred. It fits your scape height but is not a rebloomer. This one hold up very in rain. It does not melt or fade. It is an older one and not fancy. I am surprised more people do not grow this one. If I could only have one this would be my pick. I divided mine into 2 clumps last fall. I could send you some if you are interested.

Claudia, a very beautiful option!

Does it at least have an extended blooming season?

I am not sure how long it blooms off the top of my head. But it has very rarely ever had a bad bloom! It increased quit well for me too.

Went and did some digging thru photos. I do not necessarily take photos every single day of every plant. But last year I have photos of Sir Modred on June 25th thru July 15th.

Dana, I am in a Zone 6 area, and the vast majority of reblooming Daylilies, do not rebloom here. You may have a very hard time finding a reblooming Dark Daylily, unless some of the Northern Hybridizers have some registered with Northern rebloom. I recall seeing a couple Richard Norris darks, not sure if they have the Northern rebloom. Good Luck!

Gale, Yeah I have learned, from additional experts like yourself, that reblooming typically doesn't happen in our zone, but if even just one of them happens to rebloom, I'll take the pleasant surprise! Hurray!

If not, no big deal bc I acquire the daylilies that I love with a bit of scrutiny, due to space is at a premium in my small city gardens! Just doin' what I can to maximize the "show" during the growing season. Crossing Fingers!

I appreciate the information just the same, Gale!! I tip my hat to you.

Everybody is so helpful on this site! It's really a pleasure!!! Group hug
