I found this rose!

I had ordered an Alchymist band from RVR in 2009. I was continually confusing it with 'The Alchymist' which doesn't even look close to the bloom on just 'Alchymist'. Blinking

Anywho.....I'm happy that it now has a name. Hurray!

I do wish there was a bigger effort not to duplicate (or nearly duplicate) rose names. Doesn't anyone check? I can certainly understand the confusion. I'm glad you figured it out.

It's a real mess, Kordes are especially guilty of reusing names multiple times. I guess there isn't an international standard.

Another bit of confusion arose from the fact that most of the color/type info readily available must be for 'The Alchymist'. When they're sort of grouped together the "pinkish' color notation seems to have been lost in the mix; at least for the most part.

Hopefully, this plant will make tons of blooms next spring (it sure is big enough now! Hilarious! ) - then maybe we'll have a lot more to look at! Big Grin

Chelle, The Alchymist and Alchymist are one and the same. If you click on that link again and click the name at the top of the image, it brings you to the main description page where it lists all the alternative names.

Thumbs up So is that rose sending out the long climber limbs? I always liked the look of that one but avoided it because it's a once bloomer.

Yes, it is! It's waaaay over my head right now! The arbor that it's planted next to is probably ten feet high. It's to the top. I just now took a photo of a cluster of buds very near the top. (My fingers are so cold and stiff that I can barely type! Hilarious! ) If the shot turns out I'll post it, just for kicks. Big Grin

Gee; now I'm confusing myself! Alchymist doesn't have the buds right now - it's the other very tall one on the other side of the arbor (Nahema) that has those!

Okay. It's hard to see without blooms on it - it's a jungle in there right now....but Alchymist is growing alongside the front post. One cane is trying to get into the tree there on the left, the rest are sort of to the right of the post. The long cane behind the second post is Agatha. I haven't had a single bloom on that one yet, at least not that I can recall.
Thumb of 2011-10-17/chelle/37b832

The top of the post itself is about how tall I am. Big Grin

Nahema is alongside the other post (outside of this picture) on the right. I'm hoping the two of them will make a nice springtime "entryway". Bobbie James is behind Nahema, and clear in the back is Eden.

This arbor is great for the once-bloomers because it gets limited direct sun after the trees leaf out.

Is it a grafted rose? I have a number of non-climbers that were grafted onto Dr. Huey I think and have been sending out these massively long canes.. and then never bloom. I have one that hasn't bloomed once in 3 years (gonna be shovel-pruned next spring!). I found a lot of my Stainless Steels have done that :(. That, and 2 Lagerfelds both did the same thing. Bleh. One of my Stainless Steel's got to be about 8' tall just on it's own and never bloomed this year. One of my Charisma's is also about 6' tall (not quite as tall as me, but pretty close) and has never bloomed. Gonna go the way of the dodo bird next spring & put something that WILL bloom in it's place.

erk, EDIT: grafted rather than grated. I suppose I could grate them but I doubt rose canes are as tasty as, for instance, freshly grated chocolate sprinkled on a warm cup of cocoa...

No, Toni, I don't think that's it. This version of Agatha has very distinctive canes. They're thorny and prickly. I have in the past had many roses revert to the Dr. Huey stock, and not bloom, but since then I've been pretty selective about what I purchase. Most of my roses are own-root, and I'll buy that way whenever possible. I do have a few new ones that are grafted; I'm hoping that with better cover and care they'll be okay. I simply couldn't find those few as own-root plants.

Thanks, Sue! I can't wait for Spring already! Hilarious!

I've been trying to load a shot of the whole arbor for about an hour now....it just won't do it! Grumbling Argggh!

Maybe tomorrow...

Did you downsize the shot? When mine takes forever to load, I realize I am trying with my original full sized version and not my edited version which is much smaller.

I down-sized it three times!

Pretty soon it'll be just a speck! Hilarious!

It seems like once the kids get out of school for the day my air-card internet gets bogged down....if I wait 'til later at night or mid-morning (on weekdays) I have much better luck. On weekends I usually can't do much of anything. Rolling my eyes.

Definitely worth the wait! Now wait until all the local kids go to sleep, upsize it, and put it in the database.

Uhm, excuse my denseness, Zuzu; but why in the database? If I could have thought about where to put it in there I'd have done so and posted a link here. For some reason images load better for me in the DB area than they do in the forums.
What category for this? There's a ton of glories and several different roses (that you really can't even see in the jumble)......the only rose you can even see blooming is Acropolis.
