Okay folks, here's my pictures for the last two days. All that gardening really caught up with me. Yesterday, I woke up and just laid in bed for an hour because moving didn't seem like viable option. Still had to go out and feed the caterpillars, though.
The Carolina Wren posse was out and about. They sure do move fast!
I kept hearing a sound like someone knocking on a door, so I figured there were woodpeckers around. I was not wrong. Here's a Red-Bellied Woodpecker.
And I was chasing Hairy Woodpeckers all around my neighbor's yard. Couldn't get great photos, but enough to prove they were there.
Yesterday, I saw some more action. This Mourning Dove startled me as I was walking across the driveway. It was sitting so still. I think we were in a staring match - I blinked first.
I don't know if this is a female or juvenile Cardinal. It looks a little more red than the females I see, but some of them can have a little color on them.
This one is definitely male.
This Carolina Wren was sitting on the fence grooming itself. I tried to get a picture of it sticking its wing out because for some reason, it reminded me of a penguin. But it moved too fast for me.
This Tufted Titmouse looks like it got caught with its hand in the cookie jar...er...beak in the bird feeder.

You're getting awfully good at the birdy photos, Melanie. That is a juvenile cardinal, the adult females have a red beak like the males. Also there's still some fluffy grey feathers on its belly.

Thanks, Elaine! I knew there was something different about it, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Also, it wasn't acting afraid enough of me! Or squawking at me. So I figured he must be new.
Oh, that also helps because I couldn't remember if this was the same bird or a different one. But it's the same one; he just went up in the tree. I couldn't remember because my brain has been fried by the heat. Plus, I was trying to track several birds at the same time which is actually really hard.

the wren does look like it has some penguin in it
and the look on the tit mouse's face is hilarious

@Gleni , it would only be a guess at this point , I did find the original folder marked 1/07
but no birds were in it , just a few shots of snow , but my guess would be dark eyed junco , song sparrow or morning dove
they are the ones that tend to do the most walking on the ground

Melanie really is getting good on the bird photos and ID's as well. Beautiful photos.
GrammaChar posted some brilliant shots of her quite varied menagerie. I didn't realize you guys have goldfinches through the summer. We don't. I adore listening to them talk to each other.

Ooh, I was thinking about the butterflies I'll get to see when I go to WV to visit Grandma next month, but I forgot about the birds! She always has Goldfinches and Hummingbirds! Granted, she has feeders for them. It's so nice to just sit on her front porch and take photos of them. But for now, I'm stuck in hot, humid, Florida.
Today was mostly a "feed the caterpillars and get back in the AC" kind of day. But I did take some bird photos. Red-Bellied Woodpeckers. I never knew I had so many woodpeckers in the neighborhood until I started looking up. And listening!
And at the feeder it's Tufted Titmice and Carolina Chickadees. Sometimes, at the same time!

It is a stay inside day here too. I did walk the dog before 10 am so it was bearable. I am hearing phoebes a lot right now on our walks. We also had a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak at the seed tray this morning but the cardinals would not let him in. They are here during the summer but we have rarely had them come to feeders later in the season. They mostly show during spring migration time.

Now that is a coincidence I turned the sprinklers on a little while ago too! (The weather report kept saying we would get rain today but that never happened!) It really is worth it to see all the little birdies enjoying the shower

[quote="GrammaChar"]Okay, I'm stealing that dryer vent idea. Genius!
Here's another "invention":
Yup, a mascara brush. Wash well (you can use an x-ed out toothbrush to get off all of the makeup). Perfect for cleaning the ports on hummingbird feeders.
