I love the humor, but I would hate to see that sticky get lost in the chat. Jim has worked hard on it, and provided us with great info.

You are welcome and I honestly don't know. Is it possible that you installed a new operating system on your PC and that causes a different orientation?
I am for at least a year now on an IPad, so I don't see any of that.

I don't have a 'smart' phone...I have a 'stupid' old, slide-phone with a keyboard, and I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to even take a picture with it, nevermind post one here from it!! Rolling on the floor laughing

It wasn't long ago I got rid of my rotary dial phone, and I still have a land-line. I am one of those people who is going to be dragged (technologically speaking anyway) kicking and screaming into the 21st century! Sticking tongue out

I had to BUY a tablet so I could take the Square when I sold my baskets at the shows! It now sits, uncharged, on the shelf, where it will probably stay until I start the shows back up again in October! Hilarious!

No i-anythings here, not iPhones, not iMacs, not iBooks, not iTablets......

I am on the same computer, with the same operating system as I have been since I first discovered this website and have used for every single picture I have ever posted! It's my home (and only) pc, and nothing has changed, at all.

Just two bulbo-phal pictures that came out sideways when posting!

Just because you don't change things doesn't mean the operating systems and other software on websites don't change. You can get to a point where your computer is just not supported anymore.

Oh goody, thanks for the input, Jim! And just when I was starting to understand all that name-game orchid stuff, you're gonna confuse me with computer stuff! Confused

Seriously though, I post a LOT of pictures here, and a LOT of them specifically TODAY in fact...and the only 2 that ever acted funny were the 2 of the bulbo-phal. I would say maybe because I took them back in 2010, but the smiley-face brom was taken at the same time, on the same day even, with the same camera, and came out of the same file in my computer.

Patty, I got sucked in to upgrading to Microsoft ten, and hated it . After struggling for 4 months, I said enough, took my pc to the shop, and had them wipe it and reinstall IE7. , Now I'm getting warnings that If I don't upgrade soon I will have to pay for that program, and I'm debating with myself. It's tough for us seniors to change, but if we don't, life moves on without us. I still don't have full control of my android phone either. Whistling

Thanks for the support Carol! Thumbs up

Not so sure about that "us seniors" part though...is 53 considered a 'senior' now??? Rolling on the floor laughing

I just think the world was a nicer place before all this technology...and certainly slower. I hate to go to Starbucks and see 3 people at a table, all on their phones as if they're alone. I don't want to read a book on a nook--I want to hold it in my hands and turn pages and feel the paper. I don't want to be available to everyone and anyone 24/7, I like to come home to a message on my machine that I can choose if & when to return! Technology can open access to the world, but it seems to me that it closes our personal worlds...we can talk to people across the country on a website, but we won't talk to people sitting across from us at a dinner table. Shrug!

Anyway, I haven't gone with Windows 10 yet either...and my computer guy says he has heard lots of mixed reviews, although he likes it. I'm waiting...I don't know for what, but I'm waiting... Rolling my eyes.

Well , try McDonalds, they seem to have an early cut off age. LOL! Your attitude is right for "us seniors" though. I hated Win 10, but when I took my pc to the shop, the guy told me that upgrading from Win 8 (also a paid subscription) went pretty smoothly, but upgrading from IE7 was the problem. What it boils down to is Microsoft doesn't give anything for free anymore. They have to keep up with their competitors..

Well, Patty . . how far back are you going to go to "before all this technology" ? Before phones? Before computers? Before the internet (which let's face it we're all enjoying immensely) or before television?

The world's been changing faster and faster throughout our lives. Dragging our feet won't slow it down, it will only leave us behind.

It's all in how you use the technology that preserves your life's privacy and your pace of communication. You can use your cell phone the same way you use your land line - just turn off the ringer and leave it in the house. Then play your messages when you want to. Don't know about you but we still have a land line and 90% of the calls now are spam and scams. We're ready to give it up. You're so right about using phones in restaurants, I think it's absolutely rude to do unless you're alone. Marsh gets a call occasionally when we're out, but he gets up and goes outside to answer if he needs to.

I'd hate to give up my Skype calls with my grandkids - they get to see me and hear my voice every day, even though I'm 2700 miles away. So when I go there to visit I'm not a stranger. I also get to see all the cute clothes I buy them, and watch them play with the toys. I'd be hating life if anyone took away my access to Amazon . . .

Agree with you about books, I still read a real paper book to fall asleep at night when I'm home, but for traveling, you can't beat an e-book on your tablet. Hey, you can carry a whole library in the space that one paper book takes up.

Go with Windows 10 before they force it on you. It's fine once you get used to the changes - a lot better than Windows 7 was to get used to. I asked Cortana to find where my pictures had gone, and they popped right up . . . that was SO easy. Plus they're automatically backed up, too.

I have had the sideways picture happen to me. It happens when to get a good shot I turn the camera/phone sideways. Then on the computer once downloaded and turned right side up to view. Those are the ones that sometimes come out sideways when I post. They go back to the original position

Hmm, I like that huh - look on people's faces when I accept a call on my Apple watch! Smiling
I believe it is a good thing to learn new technology and I do try to keep up as much as it is practical.
We designated my old Droid phone as Husband's camera. He loves to explore the local forests and sees many times really interesting plants. It has a decent camera and I can use the email on it (while connected to the wifi in the house) to move the pictures out, since this Google product won't communicate with Apple products. Works well and fits easily in his pocket. (His phone is a flip phone without e-mail plan. )

And I agree, my IPad has a stack of books which I can read anywhere! And pictures can be taken and posted in a flash! Smiling

I agree with Ted. When I take photos, sometimes horizontally, and upload them to my Easy Share file, I generally look at them and see if they need to be lightened or perhaps rotated. If the picture(s) present sideways (rotated), I just rotate it until it is straight. If I do that before they go into my pictures library (enhance/rotate), those changes will always be permanent. However, if I forget to enhance/rotate, they will then go into the library presented sideways. I can rotate them in the library and though it will remain "straight" there, IF I upload those pictures to ATP/NGA, they will revert, and present sideways. When I see that, I have to go back to those pictures in the library and rotate them opposite of what's shown on ATP. Then when I upload them, they will be straight. For example, I uploaded a photograph to ATP and it presented sideways, rotated to the right. I went back to my Pictures Library, located that picture, clicked on "Edit", and then rotated the picture to the left. I saved it and then uploaded it back to ATP. It is now straight (vertical).

I am using Easy Share by Kodak and other programs won't respond the same way. My description is probably hard to understand, but doing it (straightening a rotated picture) is quite easy.
