Lewisias are some of my favorites.
This one is a hybrid called Sunset.

Hurray!
I'm happy to see a new thread--Great title!
Thank you Caroline!!

Lewisias don't do real well for me either--I think it's way too hot, sunny, and dry for them in the summer here --of course, I planted them in sand/gravel all worried about the winter wet thing, but my winter is essentially frozen and my summer is brutal. I have three left that are technically still alive after three years. One bloomed this spring, the one that is in more shade from other plants and probably has a cooler root-run under a big rock; the other two did hydrate back up, and green up, but didn't bloom and now we are already into the high 90's and broke 100 the other day and they look like they are headed back into their 'summer leather' state.
I suppose I could/should move them and care for them better (but my list is kinda shamefully long these days *Blush* )

I am loving on my daphnes though Lovey dubby
here's some

Lewisia rots over the winter/early spring every year no matter how I have it planted.

part of the 'new project' this year...
I successfully smothered this little plant by letting more aggressive plants take over...trying again

Had off and on luck, had a small area that I removed the soil and replaced it with 40% sand 40% pea gravel and 20% of my "special" compost...did that to about a a depth of 6-9 inches (special only that I made the compost : )). They have done relatively well for the past 4-5 years. They are a spectacular plants; when the light hits them they really illuminate! I have tried, off and on for years, but it wasn't until I changed the soil that I was able to have some sucess .
