Lewisias don't do real well for me either--I think it's way too hot, sunny, and dry for them in the summer here --of course, I planted them in sand/gravel all worried about the winter wet thing, but my winter is essentially frozen and my summer is brutal. I have three left that are technically still alive after three years. One bloomed this spring, the one that is in more shade from other plants and probably has a cooler root-run under a big rock; the other two did hydrate back up, and green up, but didn't bloom and now we are already into the high 90's and broke 100 the other day and they look like they are headed back into their 'summer leather' state.
I suppose I could/should move them and care for them better (but my list is kinda shamefully long these days *Blush* )
