Thread OP

My salvia and cone flowers have small white balls of moist, bubbly like growths. What is it and how can I get rid of it?
Thank you for your reply.

Can you provide images?

Does it look like foam? Could be spittle bugs. http://www.ecoyards.com/white-...

Spittle bugs were my first thought as well. If there aren't a lot of them, you can get rid of them with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. Once you get rid of the foam with the alcohol soaked Q-tip, you'll see a small green critter that you can sort of roll onto the Q-tip and then dip it into the alcohol to rinse it off. Then on to the next one!

I always just blasted them with my hose if I happened to come cross it, just like the link suggested. But it never seemed to do any damage.

@dave or @Trish, can you edit out the email addy in the OP? nodding

Thanks to those who responded to my question regarding bubbly growths on my salvia and cone flowers. They went away after several waterings. Don't know what they were, but they did not harm the plant.

MargLipinski Thank You!
