This is Eternity, a Brugmansia that keeps re-blooming thanks to all the rain.

Well, this white mist flower shouldn't be blooming. It normally blooms in the fall. But what a crazy weather year we've had! So it's in flower - and the monarchs don't seem to mind.

Mine is blooming also. I had to cut it way back. It was hanging over the sidewalk out front.

The growth here has been rampant. I have to drench myself with Deep Woods Off and get the machete before I take my morning yard walk with the dog. And tomorrow I need to go buy Dunks because the rain barrows have clouds of mosquitoes hovering over them. After four years of drought, this is a totally new experience!
But thank goodness for the recent sunshine!

By my calculations these will be in full pink bloom tomorrow . They bloomed white tonight. The air smells lovely!

That's gorgeous! I have all mine in pots because the backyard is mostly limestone, except for the raised bed behind the pond.

I have a little white rain lily blooming. Also have a new daylily that has its first bloom. I really like its shape. Named Silver Butterfly. The purple coneflowers are really taking off too.

I guess I should be a good brug grower and feed them
The rains kept diluting the feed
I thought I was safe this week, fed them and we have had hard rain three afternoons in a row

The brugs are growing well, but there hasn't been a hint that any are going to bloom. Lots of growth on a lot of things. Currently the big splash of blooms are the daylilies.


And the always winter-abused Hoya has recovered in a sensational way. I've never seen anything close to the number of blooms and soon-to-blooms. I'm amazed every time I look at it .


I think the Fennel is nice right now, too. So do a large number of insects. Those blooms attract a variety of flies and wasp, moths and butterflies. I guess I can have my own homegrown Fennel seeds if the black swallowtail caterpillars don't eat the stalks off.


There are a couple of red Mandevillas blooming, but they should get a lot better a bit later.

@needrain The leaves on the brug will be a good indicator. The two side of each of the new leaves will be unequal. One side of each leaf will be a little bit longer where it joins the stem. Then you can look for blooms. Have you fertilized them a little?

No, I haven't fertilized yet. When they got upsized earlier, the potting mix was pretty rich and they all have really nice color and are growing relatively fast. They are fast becoming large plants. This one, 'Adora', is one of the two that got frost bitten when I failed to get them inside. They have basically caught up with two that got safely stowed away inside for the night.

This is a good hint that never knew about. I just look for inflo/flower buds. But what does "The two side of each of the new leaves..." mean. Where is the "two side"? And what do you mean "One of each leaf.."?

@needrain That looks great! you should get blooms by fall, at least.

Can you see that one side of the leaf is shorter than the other side where both sides meet the stem? When you notice that on the newest leaves, at the top, the buds will be beginning to form. I bet if you check the leaves on your gorgeous pink brug above, you will see some of the newer leaves are not equal on each side.

Interesting! And thanks for the photo. That clears it up good! @Bubbles So this happens to the leaf before inflo shows up even? How did you learn this? Or are you just naturally smart and observant that way?

I looked at the leaves on all the Brugs. Maybe one new leaf was offset on one plant, but just barely so it may just be false hope! I wasn't expecting bloom the first year anyway. I just need to learn what they like right now. They sure like a daily drink! If they liked alcohol instead of water, they'd be falling down all over the place!

gone 2 seed, who's the moderator on the Brugmansia forum, wrote a few articles about growing brugs. I read them all and learned a lot. You might try to find them over on that forum, or tree mail him for a link. He used to have them on his website, Countryside Gardens (?), but sold it. Somewhere I have the articles on my computer.

There's a Brug forum?! I guess I confused it with no Bromeliad forum? I'm heading over there right now. Might be dangerous as I am sure there are others besides pink and yellow that I might learn to like and want.
