Your comments are perfect Ann. When people come in to the database from a search, nice wordy and detailed comments are usually the most useful thing on the page!

I tend to be a bit "wordy"and have trouble sometimes explaining things in a way that others understand. Someone told me once that it's my "southern" accent. Big Grin I'm sure a few of my database comments need spell-check and rephrasing. A comment that takes me fifty words could probably be better explained in twenty five or less. I was thinking you only get half an acorn per comment but now I see that I was getting it mixed up with a thumbs up in the moderator catches. Giving a thumbs up there is the half an acorn. So a full acorn for each comment all the time makes it even better.

Trish must have been really busy this morning because I have all my extra acorns in my account from my comment posting yesterday. I wondered if I would be the one with the most comments as I did post as many comments as I could manage after I read about the extra acorns to be awarded.

But the math still doesn't compute to me. When I went to bed last night I had 232.45 and no pictures to be approved and this morning I have 333.60. I must have gotten credit for some thumbs up in the moderator catches. But heres what I can't figgure out. If I should get my regular acorn for each comment, where is it?

The acorns were NOT racking up as I put the comments in yesterday so I thought maybe that the comments had to be approved and then the acorns showed up.

Dave or Trish could you please clear this up for me. I am really confused! Confused

Dave posted above that there was a limit.
dave said:I'll say yes on Trish's behalf, but I'll also place a limit of a maximum of 100 acorns (per person) for today's bounty.

Sue, I know there is a 100 acorn limit for the extras. But I should also have the 48 acorns for all the 48 comments which are the regular acorns for posting comments. Those are the ones I am looking for. I can't figgure out were they are. Confused

Rita, I think you missed my post above. Not every comment submitted to the database gets an acorn. The acorns page specifies that to get the acorn you must "Post a new (useful) comment about a plant."

Well, what's useful? One word? One sentence? 5 sentences? That's hard to judge, so I programmed the system to count up the characters and only issue acorns on longer comments.

A comment like below is nice:
Excellent multiplier here in zone4a. Prolific bloomer.

But compare it to:

This has been a wonderful plant for me. It blooms throughout the summer in morning sun and bright shade areas. The orange calyces and yellow flowers against the almost-black leaves really brighten up a shady area. The hummingbirds like to visit the flowers too. It isn't hardy here in Zone 7b, but it goes dormant when temperatures get low in the fall and the tuber is easy to overwinter inside. I just tried water rooting a cutting from a broken stem and it developed roots easily. I also just noticed tiny tubers developing at the base of the leaf petioles on the mother plant.

My Climate:
USDA Zone 7b
AHS Heat Zone 7/8
Humid

Which one is more useful to you, the reader, if you come in searching for information about a plant? How can I award an equal amount to both of these commentators?

I gave two thumbs up in the moderators catch to two hosta plants. Now they are moved to the database having been approved. My acorns went up by a fraction of 1. Acording to what Dave said about getting acorns I should get half acorn for each so acorns should go up by a complete one acorn but they didn't.

Rita, I believe the TOTAL for each comment yesterday was 5 acorns not 5 acorns in addition to the 1 acorn we normally receive for a comment because that would make a total of 6 acorns per comment. I think Trish was meaning yesterday we would receive a TOTAL of 5 acorns for each comment.
And someone correct me if I'm wrong but Rita the way I'm reading it you are thinking we get 1/2 acorn for a thumbs up in the moderator catches. The way I read it it is point zero five (.05) and 1/2 would be point five zero (.50).
