This is Love Song which I acquired from Judy Davisson this spring. It has the best branching and bud count for a first-year that at least I have ever seen. She did send me quite the massive fans, but still I’m very impressed. Thumbs-up to Judy and her great plants! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Just planted this one about a month ago, and at that time it was two tiny fans—the minimum I’d accept from a seller. This thing is now all of 8” tall but apparently it’s decided it can handle putting up scapes! Blinking

When I first saw them I gasped a little bit from shock and awe. Then I swear I heard the daylily speak to me: “Hey, no big deal, I’m a Munson!” Blinking

It is a Munson (Samurai Silk) -- I simply had to get at least one into my collection and I’m impressed. This one’s definitely got some gumption! Green Grin!

Will do!

It sure is nice to see the new gals settling in to their new homes. Half to two-thirds of my second-years had a bout of spring sickness this spring Thumbs down but almost all have recovered nicely. Starting to see a lot of scapes and am really looking forward to bloom season!

Another first-year has surprised me.

This one, also, had two VERY small fans, and the extremely small start of a third fan. Even though it isn't more than 8" tall it has already decided to add a fourth fan and put up a scape!

I had to leave VERY early this morning and I just got home to discover that my first-year plant LOVESONG has five blooms open at once! Incredible and awesome!

Zooks, Dennis! I have a bunch of first years, and I'm mightily impressed when I get a single bloom. I've certainly never had more than one!! Five, you say? I'd faint!!!

I'm certainly impressed by Love Song. Now I'm shocked. For the SECOND time this year, as a first-year plant, it has got 5 blooms open at once:

And here is another tiny first-year. The two fans were so small when I received it that I would have been upset with the seller, except this was a gift plant so I really can't complain too much. This thing right now is just 5" tall and yet here it is popping up a scape!

So much for a fan having to be mature before it puts up a scape! Hilarious! I'm astonished that with very few exceptions every first-year plant, both this year and last year, no matter how big or small the fans are, has bloomed. I guess daylilies are REALLY inclined to bloom!

Okay now, Dennis, you knew I was jealous before...5 blooms is amazing! Some of my first year's have put up scapes that dried up before blooming!

It is awesome isn't it Barbalee! These daylilies are making me look like I know what I'm doing Hilarious!
In the case of Love Song I think it is a combination of a great plant and some huge high quality fans Judy sent. Thumbs up

You're probably right on the second front, but you can take credit on the first! A lot of my first years were teensy, tiny things, but they're definitely growing! The big ones I got are giving me a bloom here 'n there.

Even if they don't bloom it is nice to see the first-years growing and think about what they will eventually become, isn't it?

I thought for sure a fan has to mature quite a bit and show some significant growth before one could expect it to bloom. But that plant in the last photo I posted here sure blows that out of the water! I just can't believe it! This plant is supposed to have 5" blooms on 24" scapes. Right now its largest leaf is only 3/8" wide and about 6" long. This is amazing to me
