are these two different plants or the same:
Scindapsus pictus 'Exotica' and Epipremnum aureum 'Silver-Satin' ?
if they are not the same - how do they differ? i can't find any decisive info. We have 2 entries in our DB
Satin Pothos (Scindapsus pictus 'Exotica')
and
Pothos (Epipremnum aureum 'Silver Satin')
i put the pic for the 2nd one, but now after carefully going thru a number of sites/images i don't know what to think. Mainly, 'cause they say that 'Exotica' grows very fast and the pictures match mine closely - i am thinking that it can be Scindapsus 'Exotica'.

what i have on mine are the following interesting features:
there is a vein on the rim going all the way down - like on anthuriums.
there is an occasional leaf sheath, but not on every leaf.
the petiole is mostly round, with just a little split at the very bottom.
the leaf folds on central vein.
mine has doubled in size in 2.5 months - so very fast growth.
the leaf is slightly asymmetrical and curved to one side comma like.
the ears (tops) of the leaf overlap slightly. the end tip is quite sharp and elongated.
the size of leaves increased in 2 mo time noticeably even without any vertical support.
what do you say?

I'm fairly certain that both of the plants pictured are Scindapsus and have nothing to do with Pothos/Epipremnum except as a misnomer by commercial sellers. I think they're the same plant.

I'm also confused about Scindapsus pictus, though! Is the plant pictured here as Scindapsus pictus 'Exotica' the same thing (mature form?) of Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus', below? Or totally different plants? I have both of them and they seem like they're different plants entirely, but both are always labeled as Scindapsus pictus; it's so hard to find real info.

I've also seen the one you've linked above referred to as 'Siamese' but unsure if that one is yet another slightly different form.

(Supposedly) Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus':

the above two differ in pattern of variegation considerably from S. pictus. my plant is just a seedling from 3" pot - so the variegation is not from mature plant.
i read that the biggest difference of 'Exotica' from 'Argyreus' that it grows very fast! especially in hydro - which is how i grow my plants. not in total-hydro, but semi-hydro (roots in small pot in the mix, with water roots/wick trailing in the reservoir). Both reg 'Pictus' and 'Argyreus' are supposed to be very slow - people complain that they barely do a leaf in sev months...

I have both 'Exotica' and 'Argyraeus'. My 'Exotica' has larger, thicker leaves than 'Argyraeus'.

LOL, I see from the first post it was Pothos (Epipremnum aureum 'Silver Satin') and Satin Pothos (Scindapsus pictus 'Exotica') being compared. I'm confused about this too, The leaves on my 'Exotica' have the thickness/texture of Epipremnum so I wonder which it is? I've had my plant since 2008 and almost lost it to a freeze a couple of years ago but luckily it's recovered; not growing very quickly at all but that's more than likely due to my lack of care.

I googled and couldn't find much info. Glass House Works lists both exotica and argyraeus as species which I'm not sure is correct. It also states that both have leathery leaves. The one I know as Satin Pothos (Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus') has the same thin leaves like Heart Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium) except the leaves of 'Argyraeus' are variegated.

I was only familiar with Golden Pothos before, and this is the one I have:



In Feb, I got this plant, initially the label was just houseplant at the store. And I asked first if they knew its actual name. Finally got someone a bit knowledgeable and she said it was Satin Pothos. Then when I went home, researching some more, I found out it is Scindapsus. But I don't know which specific cultivar. I am still observing how it grows. So far similar conditions as Golden Pothos, though I have not changed anything yet to its soil and container. My Golden Pothos is being grown in water gel beads, while Scindapsus still in soil.

I find the leaves of Golden Pothos a bit more glossy and more elongated heart shape. Scindapsus seems like there is a dull waxy leather-like sheen on the leaves. Also with heart shaped leaves but more compact. It actually reminds me of succulents but the leaves do not hold water, so I do watering intervals with this one. but much less light than what most succulents need.
