Great picture, Charlie. The southwest has great skies.

They are calling for a high of 85F. Right now they are calling for a high of 100F on Sunday. I have seen it over 100F in October.

The weather co-operated today and it was about 70 all day. Just perfect for gardening weather. Got lots done.

This fall I tried to grow peas in pots on my driveway like I did this spring. But the backyard birds simply wouldn't have it and pecked the poor pea seedlings to death.

So I decided I didn't need most of the pots on the driveway for winter and dragged the 12 of the 16 inch pots off the driveway and arranged them along the side of the house on the driveway side. I will be growing peas in them in the new location come spring.

So tired now from dragging all the pots and getting them fixed up where I wanted them to be.

We haven't had frost here yet. We are on a hill and tend to escape the first early frosts. I am hoping for some rain today.

Rained last night and has been raining non stop since about 10:30 this morning . Goes from light to heavy and back to light and then back to heavy rain ......no gardening today . Made a quick dash out to harvest some seed pods . Still have Sears Tower, Happy Returns , Stella d'oro and 2 of my own seedlings still blooming . The rain is now responsible for the deterioration of my watermelon vines, tomatoes are looking pretty sad .......but cabbage , swiss chard , zucchinis and peppers and luffa still going strong but if this rain doesnt stop soon they will succumb too I am sure.

No daylilies blooming, of course, but maybe you'll like this amaryllis blooming out of season.

I skipped to the end of this thread as I don't have a lot of luck with daylilies. But I wanted to report that those who sent me seeds, and even some seedlings, I have bunches of plants now. Only one has bloomed though and it was in a thoroughly bad spot. Amazing. I have dug up lovely fans of St. Francis of Asissi among others. Also Siberian iris I received seeds for and have now many nice seedlings. They will do well.

Just wanted to thank those people for sharing and that I hope with more judicious placement I will have blooms next spring. I place them in sunny spots (well, one not so sunny) and get robust fans but no flowers. Any suggestions. Dahlias, peonies, lamium, iris, lilies bloom like crazy - just the daylilies refuse to bloom. Confused

Sunny. South wind 5 to 15 mph.

Hot and it might storm tonight. Still have too many mosquitoes to work in the yard.
