I was lucky enough to acquire 2 of these wonderful trees at SFA University arboretum and I'd like to pass one of them on to someone else. I've had it planted in this pot for about 18 months and it needs to be put in the ground.

I'm asking $100.00. Paypal only.

Thanks, Brenn

Those are wonderful plants and nice bloomers, Brenn.

Yikes, is it made of gold? Perhaps an exotic cultivar? Sticker shock for me...

I had never heard of that one and when I looked it up I understood why it is so valuable. What a stunning tree; those flowers are just amazing. I don't plan to live in this house for many more years but if I was planning to stay put I would buy that in a NY minute.

OK got my curiosity, and looked it up as well. Very cool bloom! Living in a region where dogwoods are rather ubiquitous, I just couldn't imagine.

Dogwoods are native to the south, but they are typically very spindly trees. They are extremely difficult to transplant and even if store-bought, they require just the right conditions to grow and bloom. The Mexican dogwood seems to overcome a lot of the shortcomings of our native ones. We have a friend here who has a number of the Mexican variety and they are handsome plants (still compact growers though) and bloom profusely. I need to beg him out of some of the "pups" and see how they do for me.

Ken, at our last home we had a fabulous native dogwood with heavy branches that draped to the ground. The flowers were very large for a native and it seemed like every seed that dropped under that canopy of branches sprouted. All our friends wanted one. We learned that we had to take a good bit of the native soil with each one we dug. If the soil fell off the roots and we planted it in topsoil or potting mix it was sure to die. As long as we were able to keep as much as possible of the soil the seed had sprouted in around the roots, they transplanted just fine. There must have been some beneficial microbe under the parent tree that was necessary for growth and development.

You supplied the necessary growing conditions, starting with its soil. Thumbs up

I planted 2 of these in my yard last year and they are doing great. I also have native dogwoods. Can't wait to see mine bloom!

For the first time, I am going to have English Dogwood in the fall. It is not a picky grower and is a great bloomer. I do love that Mexican Dogwood and will have my eye open for that one.
