Dr. Richard Criley is a Emeritus Horticulturist with the University of Hawaii and specializes on tropical plants, particularly those found in the Hawaiian Islands. His main interest seems to be directed to those plants that flower. He has published several articles on plumeria.

I will throw another name out, and this would be directed more to the Houston, TX plumeria growers. Do any of you know who Eulas Stafford is? Dr. Criley told me to contact him about Slaughter Pink color break.

I met Eulas at the Plumeria Sale (he sold me the Scented Pudica) , but that is as much as I know of him. I can check the tag tonight to see if there is a telephone number on the tag.

I have contact information on him. The Hawaiian professor (Dr. Criley) told me to check with him about the Slaughter Pink splash issues. Eulas is supposed to be one of the more knowledgeable plumeria growers with lots of experience with Slaughter Pink (he might even be the one who developed the variety).

If he contacts you back, could you please ask if it is ok to share his contact info with someone else? I am still trying to get in touch with someone in regards to the Grove Farm that I purchased that Hetty and you both have your doubts about - Thanks

Hmmm, I'm puzzled why you asked, I guess you know him better than us all.

The only people I interact with on plumerias are these group and one other garden website. Since my collection is for my own enjoyment (love the blooms) I don't have a need yet to get in touch with known PHDs or Plumeria Society. I think you have to pay membership fee to be a member of that group.

Gigi, I am in a little bit different situation. If I had not had that color-break in my Slaughter Pink, I would have no need to contact any of these expert folks. Some folks on here said "Virus - destroy immediately" and that made me worry. After checking with several sources, those in academia and those not, but all experts in their fields of (plant) interest, I feel pretty comfortable that what I had was a "Splash" color change and that it has absolutely nothing to do with a virus. It seems that though this splash situation is not all that common, it is also not uncommon, and follows patterns. The consensus is that this is brought on by stress situations, most likely a combination of high heat and humidity.

You do indeed have a membership fee with PSA, just like you do with AOS.
