I have a raised stone wall bed. Years ago DH Ric build the back part of this wall it's approx. 24ft long and a little over 3ft wide. The spaces between the rocks are filled with Sempervivum, Yellow Sedum, Ebony Spleenwort and Sensitive Fern.

A couple of years ago we decided to enlarge the raised bed by adding a lower curved front wall. To prepare for the new addition a good bit of the plants in the lower area of the wall were removed and some from the upper area as well so Ric could rework some areas.

I have such a love for planted rock walls. I can't even explain how it makes me feel when I see one. Sigh.
That is wonderful Holly. Please show us a picture when you are all finished. Can't wait to see it.

I have a lot more pictures to post. I just ran out of steam last night I was outside gardening all day. I'm getting ready to head out to run some errands. Here is a pic of a section of the wall from last summer. It really is a shade bed as it only gets morning sun but the sedums and semps seem to do fine. It will take awhile for it to fill back in with all the disruption and I have been picking up some new varieties to plant in the new wall sections. In this pic you can see a tricolored sedum (pretty small) in the lower right corner. A cobweb semp middle of the upper wall.
Anyone that has pictures of their living walls is very welcome to post pictures and talk about their walls.

The only rock wall I have it the one that keeps our creek in bounds. There are a few things growing in it that have strong root systems. I'm afraid the semps and sedum will wash away. : (

Your semp looks like the one I have. This is in the beginning of winter so it is kind of closing up.

I will get a picture of my creek wall. I'll have to see if maybe I can plant at the top of it, maybe that will work.

Thank you it was quite a big job for Ric. We collected all the rocks that went into the wall and some of them are very large. We spent several weeks gathering them from a nearby bridge demolition site. A few of them are half buried in the ground. The pic with the Lewisia is from last summer and I'm not sure it is coming back this year. I have another one planted in a different location that seems to be returning but it is in a sunnier location and everything in that bed starts a bit earlier than this bed so I'm not counting it out yet.

I would love to see your wall must be nice to have a creek. There is one nearby maybe 1/4 of a mile. My children spent a lot of time down there when they were younger.
Here is another one from last year. These Dragon Blood sedums are coming back beautifully.

Also from last year. Here is a closer look at the cobweb semp hope to see this one again this year. I saw a small one that seems to have over wintered for me.
I picked up a Stone Orpine Angelina today and will put some of that into the wall and I have a couple of different semps to plant in.

Oh my goodness, I am jumping up and down. Those are so gorgeous. Don't look like they would be winter hardy here though. On my way to take some pictures of my creek wall. : ) Not near as pretty as your walls or this last picture, but I do love it.
