CaliFlowers said:There are many factors, but the film used or the image sensor in the camera has a lot to do with it. Many very nice purples tend to photograph as red.

As mentioned in a previous post, yesterday I purchased 'Nile Flower'. I noticed that the images of 'Nile Flower' in the NGA database appear red rather than purple.

Today I photographed a single flower of 'Nile Flower' first with a little shade and then in full sun, with the two photos taken only seconds apart. In the process I confirmed your observation, @CaliFlowers, that nice purples tend to photograph as red.

Here are the results:

Shade:

Full sun:

Oh absolutely! I prefer to take photos of them in shade. I seem to get their true bloom characteristics when I do shade vs. sun.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

Shade vs sun looks very different according to the camera settings. I cannot use my camera to take shade pics because they don't look right usually. I also have a hard time capturing red colors w my camera.

All of my photos are taken with a humble iPhone 4S with up-to-date software. I don't own a real camera.
