I usually try to keep out of things like this but since I was one of the "other people" who responded I just want to say that I can't see that anything I said would have caused someone to get upset and leave. Dawne also did ask it was OK to post the link to her portfolio. I think she didn't understand that the thumbnails are cropped and clickable and so was trying to show the larger picture via the website. Some photo hosting websites do offer items for sale, I don't know if it's an option to not show that on that one. I for one am glad that she took the trouble to try and identify the plants. There are far too many daylilies labeled lily on the web already Rolling my eyes.

Being one who prefers, initially at least, to give the benefit of the doubt I did see
"I checked out the link you provided and it seems to me that you are not so much interested in plants and gardening as you are in selling T-shirts and other items with images of plants..." as somewhat unwelcoming. You may be right for all I know but we'd have found out eventually anyway.

That quote I believe was the one that offended the OP. It was not as greene claims "constructive criticism", but an accusation. She was accused of not being interested in plants or gardening just because she has a Redbubble site. I have accounts at both Redbubble and Zazzle, is anyone going to accuse me of not being interested in plants or gardening. If you looks at her Redbubble page you will see that although she is selling a variety of products they are all plant related, so that shows an interest in plants. No of us have had a chance to get to know this person to determine what she is interested in and sadly because of greene's comments we may not get the chance to find out.

Hopefully we will see her again. I sent her a Tmail asking that she not judge the entire organization by one comment, and suggesting some other forums for her to try. We'll see.

Fact: Greene, you don't know me and you didn't bother to ask before you assumed.

I've updated my portfolio on here and I'm going through my external hard drive to find my flower photos because I want to know what they are. Now that I know that the thumbnail expands the photo...I'll make sure to add the photo and not a link. With all my flower photos on my photography portfolio under every photo...besides something you can buy, if you had looked harder, I have always put a description of the flowers, for me and anyone who might want to know what it is. If I could find the right description. I've been told some were wrong, the reason for coming to this site. Not for any other purpose.

No, I unfortunately don't have my own garden anymore. After the death of my fiance, I picked up and moved 3 states away from my family who love to know what the flowers are that I've been finding. I live in an apartment in Myrtle Beach, SC and find the flowers around my apartment complex or I travel 20 minutes down the road to my very favorite place on earth...Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC. Here's the link to the gardens, if you'd like to know more about them. http://www.brookgreen.org/

Yes, I take other photos, not just flowers, my business is called What I See by Dawne...so it's a little of everything that I see around me. Beauty is everywhere, not just flowers.

And...No...it had nothing to do with what Dave said at all in the other post.

If you'd like to know anything else...just ask!!

Thank you to all who have helped and commented. You're all very kind!! I'll be back with my flower photos...promise!!

If you will go to your profile page and complete the information, folks here will learn more about you. You can include a link to your website...it does not matter that you did not come to this site with the intention of sell...the fact is that you have a website and you have something to sell so why not use any opportunity to promote yourself/? Adding the link to the bottom of each of your posts will bring totally free attention to your web pages. Here on NGA we have over 40 thousand members; I am certain that your products will sell. You have good photos even if you don't yet know the names of the plants. Yes, you are making an effort to learn the correct names, but as I said...customers will be quite satisfied with your items no matter what the name is. Artists, including photographers, are allowed a bit of poetic license and can call their work by any name.

Edited to add an example to stress my (positive) meaning:
Here is a link to a photo of two flowers...the title created by Dawne is "Do you want to know a secret".
It would not be necessary for anyone to know the botanical name of the flowers in this image - it is art. Pure and simple.

Thumbs up

Happened on to this thread...yikes! Dawne - welcome, and I hope you stay and continue to contribute. I love your initial photo which apparently started this sh**storm. I get weary of the full-on (boring to me) portraits of gazillion daylilies. I found your photo quite refreshing. Keep it up!
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

Welcome! Dawne! It's nice to have you here, and I hope you don't go anywhere! This is a fantastic site, and you will get plenty of help with putting a name on your beautiful flowers. You're an amazing photographer!

I have so much more to say, but I'll bite my tongue and leave it at that for now. I just want you to know that this is a wonder web site, with many amazing people that go above and beyond to help! It has become a second home to me, and I've made friends here that mean the world to me. I hope the same will happen for you, so please don't leave!
