It's been a dream to go to Australia during bloom time and see Blyth's irises, but I too noticed that they aren't open to the public anymore, so I took that one out of my bucket list. I'd still like to get there though, I hear you can rent a horse and ride along the ocean. I would like to do that too.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.

I should have a few rebloom when yours are putting on their spring show, Robin. I may not have many to re because it has been so dry here. It is drippy here this morning with distant thunder.
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?
Thankyou Robin. My early bloomer is Eleanor Roosevelt. I was given a few rhizomes some years ago, unnamed. It looks like ER, and has been IDed on line as that. It multiplies faster than anything else and I have it growing in several places as well as giving away heaps of new rhizomes.
I used to go to Barry Blyth's farm every year, I loved it. We live fairly close to them and it's sad that they've closed to the public now.
30 days to the first day of Spring here!!! YAY!!!

I can't wait for your iris photos, Val! Several years ago you posted a beautiful photo of Beau Zam so I started looking for a source. I did add it this summer. I hope it blooms next spring and looks like your photo. smiles........

I had to take a look. There is no pic in the database! The description of Beau Zam sounds lovely. If you still have the picture, you be 1st and get an acorn!

To @Totally_Amazing and @Orchid40 (and any others in the southern hemisphere) - may I ask whether your iris have formed flower spikes/stems yet? I'm wondering if mine won't flower this year, as none have formed on any of mine yet and several of my Mum's dwarf irises will probably bloom in the next couple of weeks.
Hi @Australis, I don't have any stems or buds yet. I normally don't see any until September for my early bloomers and my very late bloomers don't send up stalks until early November.

Thanks @Totally_Amazing and @IrisLilli. I think Mum's are dwarf bearded iris (I'll see if I can get some photos next time I visit) and it's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one without stems. I just saw Mum's on the weekend when we visited last and wondered if mine might not flower. Interestingly, my parents live in regional Victoria and it's generally about 5 degrees colder there through winter, so I would have thought that that would have slowed them down a bit. Apparently not, though!

Greg - she's only got irises in the garden bed at the front of the house (which faces north). They would receive full sun. I think your suggestion of a micro climate might be right.
