Sharlene, I'm so happy that you joined our rose forum. Aside from the lovely photos and interesting experiences and experiments you've added, you're also growing roses that are unavailable to most of us. Your addition of these roses to our database is highly appreciated. The latest two entries you added (Tresor du Jardin and Paco Rabanne), complete with photos, are wonderful!

I certainly am enjoying the unfamiliar roses, Sharlene, and I am very impressed with your success with florists' roses.

Zuzu, thank you so much for your kind words! I am so glad that I found this forum, it feels like a 'coming home'! Group hug
The roses that I have added which are still unavailable will probably find their way over to you if they prove themselves here.

Porkpal, thanks too. It is really quite amazing when you think about it - you take one little bud-eye from a florist rose, graft it on to another rose (it doesn't have to be rootstock) and a couple of months later, voila you have the same rose! I am tickled pink every time I look at them Big Grin

Today is Vesuvius Day, marking the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79. The Rose of the Day is Le Vesuve.

I've also been completely self-indulgent in choosing Tanya as another Rose of the Day. I urge all of you to make the same sort of self-indulgent choice when an appropriately named rose can mark one of the birthdays, anniversaries, or other special days in your life.

August 24th was the birthday of my sister Tanya (1940-2000), who was my best friend all her life. Although she was three years older than I, we were extraordinarily close as children, more like twin sisters, because we moved to several foreign countries and were each other's only playmates until we learned the language of the other children around us. We went to the same schools, we worked at many of the same places, and we dated many of the same men. In fact, I married one of Tanya's ex-boyfriends. She died many years ago and I miss her every day.

What a nice surprise, Amanda. Is that one of your new roses from A Reverence for Roses?

Yep, one of the new ones. Another one I ordered from there, Maggie, has a bud on it so I will be seeing blooms soon on it also.

It's in part shade for now so the color seemed the same when I came home from work today. Tomorrow it won't be there. Bad storms rolling through the area with tornadoes in some areas close by so we're on alert for tonight.

I was carefully removing the buds from my new roses, mindful of their need to concentrate on growing roots, but sneaky Madame Berkeley produced three blooms while I wasn't looking.

All eight of mine are growing like crazy in their 2-gallon pots. They'll be more than ready to go into the ground when the rainy season starts in November. I don't remember ever having such good results from rooted cuttings. That nursery really knows what it's doing.

Either my blooms are getting bigger or the frogs are getting smaller. This is Belinda's Dream.

Here are two roses I'm growing in the shade, Golden Princess and Orchard's Pride. They really do a lot to light up the darkness.

Here's what I meant when I mentioned roses beaming with gratitude. Tuscan Su,n has been downright stingy with blooms this year. A few weeks ago I pulled all of the weeds that had been surrounding it, and it responded by exploding into bloom.

I'm only going to allow each rose one bloom for now so it can keep up with the root production. One rose isn't looking too happy and after we dry out a bit I will check on it's roots and see if I can plant it earlier than planned. Leaves are turning yellow/white with green veins so it's needing something.

There's something so beautiful about pale blooms shining through darkness! Lovey dubby

I'm feeling the love from some roses I recently cleared weeds away from too. We're getting a break from the heat and the last few nights temps have dipped into the 50s and the humidity hasn't been as high. And the Japanese beetle activity is diminishing, allowing me to see some lovely blooms again. Looks like this may be a colorful autumn! Hurray!
