Today's plant of the day for Salvias is Mexican Sage (Salvia mexicana 'La Placita').

This plant can be found in the NGA Plant Database at:

Please join in, if you own this plant! We would love to know more!

Also, please consider adding a "Local Report" to the NGA Plant Database! Thank you!

I'm curious to know how many of the forum readers grow Salvia mexicana. We just love them, and as our climate allows them to become established and woody they begin to bloom in July, and continue until the winter storms shreds them. In cold winter zones they might never bloom, as the first season they take until mid-to-late fall to begin and even a light frost puts an end to their growth.

I ask because we are rearranging our growing schedule for this species (I think we have 10 varieties) and may drop a few of them. As beautiful as they are, we don't sell many of these.

So, who grows Salvia mexicana? Many thanks!

@FBTS

Are these all the Salvia mexicana plants? I did a database search and this is the list I came up with.

I think these all bloom too late for me in zone 6a.
