Jet Out the Dirt

By gingin
October 12, 2011

After re-potting, I set the hose on JET to jet the dirt out from under my finger nails. May not be perfect, but it sure helps!

I admit to using the jet on my hose to spray out my fingernails, too! It works great and any specks that didn't get out are handled by my pocket knife.

I use the 'shower' setting. The 'jet' setting on mine would blow my fingernails off...might get more of the dirt out, though. Thumbs up

I'm glad you said it first, Renée. I use the "mist" setting and shoot it sideways. It also gets my pots clean, with a little soaking.

I do the same thing Ginger. It really works well. Then I wash them with soap and water when I come in the house.
When I think of it I use the Yard Glove and make sure I get it under my nails. That really makes the dirt come from under the nails easily. Thumbs up

I do the same! Works like a charm.
But, why stop at the fingernails. If I get pretty dirty I'll turn the hose on my whole bod...I'll tell ya, if you're working in the yard in 110 degree heat a good rinsing will happen more than once in an hour. Just need to remember to take off my glasses. Whistling

I do the same thing to clean my nails and cuticles! One muddy day I sprayed my tennis shoes and was shocked at how much cleaner they got with a blast of water than they did in the washing machine! I was hooked! After that, I clamped them to the edge of the deck and blasted them clean whenever they needed washing.

I agree with all of the above. And then I keep a fingernail brush under the kitchen sink & they get scrubbed with that to get the stains off.
I hear you Susie; that's why we have an outside shower. That thing gets a whole lot of use!

I would die for an outdoor shower...been looking at some really, really tiny ones. Now that I've got my new fence installed, I might be more inclined to undress outdoors behind a privacy panel...

Most people here just build an enclosure and put a wooden floor in, install a shower head. That is as fancy as it gets.

I've always wanted and outdoor shower--no issues with privacy out here in the middle of the woods! The wildlife don't care, they like us regardless, 'cause they get plenty to eat here. Grumbling

Here's the nozzle we use on our hoses. It's a craftsman brand and we got it from Sears.

Thumb of 2011-10-12/dave/857859

You twist the end and go from a very slow trickle, then to a shower, then a wide spray and then the blasting jet. Somewhere between wide spray and blasting jet is perfect for fingernails. Smiling

Looks like a great nozzle to me. I starred it for "when". I also really like the Gardena brand of connectors --- mine lasted forever --- they just pop off & on; very quick & easy to change from one thing to another such as sprinkler, another hose, spray nozzle & back again. I wonder if they even make them anymore. That's how long mine have lasted!
Oh yes Linda; a little pvc & a shower head & you're good to go. Don't need anything fancy.

Ann, we used to have all Gardena stuff in England, I have never found it since we moved here 6 years ago.

I also "jet" my nails & cuticles and use Yard Glove when I remember! I am very bad about not using digging tools when potting or repotting. I just use my hands. And I get vey dirty all over... Rolling on the floor laughing I also rinse off outside, and take off my wet clothes in the entry. It is the only way to go... I would have mud from the porch or patio all the way to the bathroom if I didn't wash off outside. I always look as though I have been wallowing in the mud. Hilarious!

If I ever get my own house again, I'm building an outdoor shower, just like they have on the beaches of Hawaii...only with hot water!
