This Lily has been around for maybe 20 years. I rescued it from a weed garden last year. Any idea what type/species it might be? About 2' tall.

Exactly. Lilium pensylvanicum is an obsolete synonym for Lilium dauricum. It would be rare for the species to have such deliniated colors, but not unheard of. Most likely, it is a hybrid with Lilium dauricum heavily involved.

Thanks Anthony, Rick. I'm not sure why it took me so long to ask but I figured one of you'd be able to solve the puzzle.

Old horticulture reference (and history) books are so interesting and valuable. Facts might be incorrect / need updating with respect to current thought or information, but the window into history is priceless.

Rick, i've come back for a slow 2nd look at this bloom and with a bit of referencing ive come to a conclusion, there might be L.Philadelphicum involved in there,.,.look at the gaps at the base, but the yellowing throws it out,.,.Maybe a strange crossing as you said?

Possibly, but doubtful. L. dauricum also has "gaps" at the base of the petals. Due to its finicky nature, L. philadelphicum hasn't been used much in breeding for commerce.

First Lily of the year, nothing else is even close. I missed it last year as it was a good year for cottontails.

Here are a couple of shots of my lilium dauricum (I think). Does anyone know of a source to buy or trade for bulbs? These have been in my family for over 70 years; the bulbs originating from mom's garden in central Illinois. I inherited a few bulbs but they seem to be slow in proliferating here in Connecticut. Any ideas?
