The butterfly gleams with silver spots in the sun, but I don't think it's the guesses above. A sure identification would be appreciated. Thanks.

Could it be the endangered Oregon Silverspot?

@Sooby, Now I'm getting more confused, as you suggestion, Sooby, as an Oregon Silverspot, looked also exactly as my unknown. Along side of it there was listed the Myrtle's Silverspot which also looked exactly alike. This info found in Google. I suppose now I have to look for specific characteristics or markings which make them different from each other. Oh dear, a lepidopterist, I am not. I'll keep this open ended till I find the definite name. Attached is a photo of the topside pattern and coloration of the beautiful little creature.

There are other variations too:

Perhaps @mellielong can help. If you're particularly interested in butterflies in general there's also e-butterfly where you can submit images, yours are lovely, and the ID is verified by an expert.

Fleur, I don't know where you are, but that looks like some kind of Fritillary to me. I only get two kinds down here in Florida, but there are many more up north, and lots of them look very similar. It's definitely not a Skipper, though. Of that I am sure.

Sue has a good suggestion about submitting to an expert. If you are in North America, I use BAMONA (Butterflies and Moths of North America). You have to create an account, but it's pretty simple. And they collect all the data to help better understand where the butterflies and moths are. You can find them at: www.butterfliesandmoths.org
