Fleur, I don't know where you are, but that looks like some kind of Fritillary to me. I only get two kinds down here in Florida, but there are many more up north, and lots of them look very similar. It's definitely not a Skipper, though. Of that I am sure.

Sue has a good suggestion about submitting to an expert. If you are in North America, I use BAMONA (Butterflies and Moths of North America). You have to create an account, but it's pretty simple. And they collect all the data to help better understand where the butterflies and moths are. You can find them at: www.butterfliesandmoths.org
