I suspect that you could enclose it with plastic sheeting for the winter.

You certainly could do that. In fact, the one year I used it, I left the cage outside during the winter just in case......... Crossing Fingers!

The following year is when I built the solarium and then, this year, I did not even plant a tomato, much less any other vegetable. The cage was dismantled and the parts were used for other things.

Maybe not if you're in an area that gets any snow...

I'd have trouble with plastic sheeting because we are in such a windy area. I doubt I could find a way to make it secure enough.

I agree, Karen; unless you were able to fasten the plastic directly to the frame, with screws, nails, staples... or maybe with something like "wiggle wire" -- as well as anchoring the whole thing down.

I plan to order one. If I try to wrap it in plastic for winter, I might do so figuring I might have to re-do it a few times. Our winds are really destructive, and we also get large hail several times a year. A glass greenhouse would never survive.

Here is a You-Tube video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

I understand what I did with fertilizer. I followed the video directions ( same as came with the box ) I put everything down the middle ,plants too. Next year things will be different.
The plastic wrap wouldnt work for me either but it is a good idea. Winters are too severe here and I only plant annuals and vedgs.

Anchoring a plastic-encased cage could get to be a problem for sure. But anything can be anchored with stakes/cord/wire to withstand a good bit of wind. You just have to use your imagination there. Also, sometimes the cage can be put into a more wind-protected spot, so that would help. Ice and snow would be a problem though. The frame is not heavy-duty enough to hold a lot of weight.

Back surgery in January, then skin cancer surgeries in May/June, and then, old age. All I've got growing is lots of bunching onions, and they simply grew over the fall and winter months from self-seeding the previous summer. I just posted all the onions in FB and CL. "Dig them up and take what you want for free". I gotta get ready for the fall planting of garlic.

I am 80, have had both hips replaced and a knee last year, arthritic hands and feet. I just can't sit still all day and do nothing that has no tangible result.
I believe gardeners will always find a way to grow plants. Thank heaven for the urge to do so.

You have seven years on me but I have the back of a 90 year old. I had three lumbar vertebrae fused in January, so that gave me relief from the sciatic nerve pain.
